Shameless wouldn't be one of the best - if not the best - comedy-dramas of all time without William. H. Macy's Frank Gallagher who, hands down, is the funniest in The Gallagher family and is featured in very unique storylines all the time.
Even though he is the father of the dysfunctional family and supposed to be an adult, he often acts like a child, who doesn't want to get out of bed and act like a man. Thanks to him, Fiona Gallagher, her oldest daughter, had to take up the mantle of managing the family and he couldn't care less. Here are ten questions about the character fans often have.
10 How Is His Relationship With His Children?
It's bad, it's really bad. The Gallagher children absolutely hate their father and who can blame them, considering the hardships they have had to bear because of no one acting like an adult in the house. And to be honest, Frank Gallagher doesn't care one bit about that. It's like he doesn't have any children or responsibilities that come with being the biggest man in the family. Everyone in the house absolutely hates him and they wouldn't think twice before kicking him out forever.
9 What's His Relationship History?
Frank Gallagher's relationships, over the years, have most of the time been directly proportional to his personal gain, although, sometimes, he has managed to act selflessly. With Monica, he was at his absolute best because he cared about nothing just like his wife. With Sheila, it was all a big facade because he just wanted a house to live in. His recent relationship with Ingrid Jones was very entertaining to watch.
8 What's The Best Thing He Has Done?
Surprisingly, the best thing Frank has done in the show is to act selflessly and give someone, who was dying, a time of their lives. Bianca is someone who was diagnosed with cancer and she was going to die.
She found Frank or Frank found her and for the first time in the show, it seemed like Frank was thinking about someone else instead of him. It felt like he fell in love and he grieved Bianca's loss a lot.
7 What's The Worst Thing He Has Done?
Frank Gallagher has actually done a lot of bad things, ranging from petty theft to being heartless enough to take a dead man's money. Once, he killed a woman named Dottie, only because he wanted to get in her will and wanted that pension money she would receive after her death. When someone from the hospital called to tell her that she can receive a heart transplant, Frank was evil enough to pick up the phone and tell the hospital that she is already dead.
6 Does He Love The Most In His Family?
From the day his children were born, Frank Gallagher couldn't care about anyone but himself but somewhere deep down, he definitely has some love for his family, and for the most part, it feels like he only ever has fun with Liam. Much of that is because Liam doesn't know the kind of bad things Frank did to Fiona, Ian, and Lip, so he feels like Frank is a friend. Even Frank seems to have a soft spot for him and that's a huge thing for a father who wouldn't think twice before robbing his own family.
5 Does He Have A Genuine Friend?
Frank is someone who only ever cared for himself, so it's understandable that he doesn't have many friends and the only one he was ever able to bond with was Mikey O'Shea. Actually, Frank and Mikey pretty much follow the same principles, and thus, it wasn't that hard for both of them to understand each other. Still, Mikey was able to make Frank care about him which the fans know is a really tough job. They formed a good pair.
4 Why Is He Addicted To Substances?
That's the biggest question of the series and one that no one can seem to answer. The only possible explanation is that Frank just loves drinking and being high.
It's frustrating for fans that he often prioritizes these things above his family.
3 Why Does He Want Easy Money?
Frank Gallagher is a child in an adult's body. He doesn't want to grow up. He just wants to be a child who is taken care of by the grown-ups. He doesn't want to get a job because he is lazy, he doesn't want to earn money by working hard because he doesn't care, and to top it all off, he literally just doesn't give a thought about maybe taking up a job and earning money like adults are supposed to. He basically loves to con people and loves to steal. He just can't give it up.
2 How Did He Take The News Of Fiona Leaving?
Actually, when Frank got to know that Fiona is leaving The Gallagher house, he showed some signs of a caring father. It looked like he cares about his family, after all, but it's important not to reach conclusions because Frank is the type of guy who would change his opinion in seconds. Frank and Fiona shared a diabolical relationship throughout the series but in the end, both of them cared for each other. No matter how bad one's family is, it doesn't stop them from caring for each other.
1 Can He Redeem Himself?
Frank Gallagher needs to go a long way if he is to redeem himself in front of not only his family but himself. The thing is, he is at that kind of age when people stop listening to others and do just what they want. But if Frank could find something within him to get better, he might just do because he is as stubborn as people get. After all, he is a Gallagher and The Gallaghers have been known to do anything they set their eyes on.
