Invincible Can Fix A Damien Darkblood Mistake | Screen Rant

Amazon Prime's Invincible show can fix a Damien Darkblood mistake from the comics. The new animated superhero series is based on the beloved comics from Robert Kirkman. While the general story of the show has remained the same, Kirkman is using Invincible to change several parts of the comics. So far, most of the changes made to Mark Grayson's origin story have been for the better, which includes streamlining the story and giving more characters a chance to shine.

Damien Darkblood is one of those aforementioned characters who have more to do in Amazon's Invincible. The demon detective began investigating the deaths of the Guardians of the Globe, and it didn't take too long before Omni-Man became his top suspect. Darkblood spoke to Debbie Grayson about the incident and started to make her wonder if her husband was behind the superteam's death. With Darkblood one step ahead of most in the Guardians of the Globe investigation, Invincible can fix a mistake the comics made with his character and role.

The prominent role for Damien Darkblood needs to result in Invincible having him play a part in the reveal that Omni-Man killed the Guardians of the Globe. The comics somewhat fumbled this storyline by showing Darkblood reveal his findings, but only after the rest of the world already knew the truth. It made the demon detective feel inadequate at his job. Invincible can avoid making this mistake with ease. Episode 4 teased that he left something for Debbie to find, so Darkblood's notes or potential evidence of Omni-Man's involvement can make him responsible for cracking the case. And even though Cecil Steadman and others suspect Omni-Man killed the superteam, solving this mystery can add to Darkblood's credibility.

If Invincible does allow Damien Darkblood to get the credit he deserves, then it also should avoid the comic's mistake of his future role. After Darkblood solved the Omni-Man case, he is never seen again in any meaningful way. This is where is story essentially ends, but Invincible shouldn't let that happen. The show might already be planting the seeds for his return. Cecil Steadman performed an exorcism on the demon that sent him back to hell, but he was quick to note that Darkblood isn't dead. This is hopefully a sign that Kirkman has a plan to bring Damien Darkblood back in the future, potentially even after the Omni-Man case is wrapped up.

Invincible has turned Damien Darkblood into a better and more compelling character, with Clancy Brown proving to be a perfect choice to voice him. The demon-turned-private-investigator is strangely sympathetic, and adds a surreal edge to the show's humor. It would be quite disappointing if this was the last viewers seen of him. With Kirkman making several changes to his own source material, hopefully Damien Darkblood's future is one of the areas he wanted to improve. It should be expected that he'll at least return again in season 1, but whether or not Damien Darkblood has a place in future seasons of Invincible remains to be seen.
