Disney has certainly produced their fair share of characters, especially villains. Audiences remember villains like Cruella de Vil, Yzma, Scar, Ursula and more over the years, given their over-the-top personalities and their heinous acts as villains.
However, Disney films aren't the only ones to produce memorable villains; Ichy and Dil from the fourth movie in the Land Before Time franchise were quite a pair that also happened to be hunting Littlefoot and his friends, and Rothbart from The Swan Princess had a great thirst for power that ultimately led to his demise. Whatever their motivation, these animated villains made their own impressions given their personalities, their actions, and their ultimate undoing.
10 Ichy & Dil (The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through The Mists)
Ichy and Dil are quite the pair. They're constantly complaining about one another to each other. Dil, though she's the ideal predator given her size and strength, has a vision problem and requires Ichy to be her guide towards her prey. Ichy in turn uses Dil given he's too small to catch his food. The two are after Littlefoot and his friends throughout most of the film, though the young group of friends ultimately escape Dil and Ichy. Even though the two say they don't need one another, it's painfully obvious that they do, and it's part of the overall comedy of the pair's dynamics.
9 Gru (Despicable Me Franchise)
In the first film, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) was pretty brutal. He used his freeze ray on anyone just for fun, and he certainly didn't care about his three newly adopted daughters too much, given he often became annoyed with them and usually got his minions to take care of them. However, Gru gradually becomes more fatherly towards them and even gives up being a villain in the second film. Gru is smart, funny, and certainly has a fun dynamics with his daughters, the minions, Dr. Nefario, and of course, Lucy.
8 Lord Farquaad (Shrek)
Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) was certainly not the most likable character in Shrek. He made up for his small size by being controlling and domineering, and would do anything to ensure his kingdom is the best, including ridding it of all fairytale creatures, and marrying Princess Fiona to ensure he would be king.
His interrogation of the gingerbread man is one of the many moments that outlines his cruel nature, and he met a suiting ending by being a dragon's meal.
7 The Colonel (Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron)
Spirit and the Colonel certainly don't see eye to eye. The Colonel is quite cruel, intending to break Spirit like he has with other wild horses, and treating Spirit cruelly when Spirit refuses to break. He doesn't treat Little Creek much better; he tries to kill both Spirit and Little Creek at different points in the film, but fails. He is cold, yet he does accept defeat when he witnesses Spirit and Little Creek jumping over a gorge, finally letting them go. While cruel, even the Colonel knows when to stop.
6 Preminger (Barbie As The Princess And The Pauper)
Preminger is the selfish and scheming advisor to Queen Genevieve. He's stealing gold from the royal mines, which in turn has bankrupted the kingdom. When the queen arranges to have her daughter marry King Dominick to save the kingdom, Preminger hatches a plan of his own and kidnaps Anneliese, intending to later "find" her, marry her, and become king. His plans are thrown for a loop when Anneliese escapes, and he later cruelly convinces the queen her daughter is dead and in order to save the kingdom, she must marry Preminger. Luckily, his plans are foiled in time, but his drive to be wealthy and powerful was dangerous considering the lengths he went to, to ensure his goals were made a reality.
5 Madame Gasket (Robots)
Madame Gasket is a sight to behold; her appearance often causes others to mistake her for a man. She's certainly manipulative and cunning, having been the mastermind behind the plot to outmode robots that are unable or unwilling to pay for the upgrades that Bigweld Industries produces.
She herself even makes the ingots needed for the upgrades, and doesn't care about the lives of other robots. She runs a brutal operation in the Chop Shop, and uses her son as a means to ensure her plot is carried out. She later perishes in the incinerator, a suiting end for a robot of her evil nature.
4 Simone & Lena (Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island)
The Scooby Gang gets more than they bargained for when they take a road trip to find a real ghost in this memorable film. When the gang arrives in New Orleans, they run into Lena, who brings them to Moonscar Island, claiming that her employer's home is haunted. While there, the gang encounters all kinds of supernatural occurrences, but the real threat lies closer than they thought imaginable given Lena and Simone are werecats, having been cursed many years before. They subsequently drain the lives of others to preserve their immortality. Scooby and his friends ultimately escape, with Lena, Simone, and Jacques, who they had offered immortality to, finally meeting their own demises.
3 Steele (Balto)
Steele is certainly not man's best friend. Not only does he frequently bully Balto and harass Jenna, but he goes out of his way to ensure the team with the medicine for the sick children of Nome gets lost and can't return in time, or possibly at all, to save the lives of the children. His goal to ensure Balto fails overshadows any other logic for Steele, and he returns home and tells a story that causes him to instantly lose his popularity and friends when Balto and the other sled dogs arrive with the medicine intact, proving his story was clearly a bunch of lies. Steele created exactly what he didn't want, and had no one to blame but himself.
2 Carface Caruthers (All Dogs Go To Heaven)
Carface is one of the most vicious villains to ever appear in an animated film. He's selfish, ambitious, and certainly not a good business partner, since he murdered Charlie by pushing a car downhill that hit him. He's not kind to his henchmen, especially his assistant, Killer, and he certainly took advantage of Anne-Marie because of her ability to communicate with animals.
Carface doesn't care about anything but himself, and he shows his true nature constantly throughout the film. It's not surprising that his selfishness and murderous drive led to his own demise.
1 Rothbart (The Swan Princess)
Rothbart is banished by King William in The Swan Princess' beginning, but it's certainly not the end, as Rothbart swears revenge and follows through on it years later by killing King William and kidnapping his daughter, Odette. Rothbart cruelly turns Odette into a swan and keeps her under his spell until she agrees to marry him so he can acquire William's kingdom; however, Odette refuses. Rothbart had a healthy ego, plenty of power, and could certainly be scary, especially when he turned into the "Great Animal." However, he underestimated Derek's love for Odette, and how far he would go to save her, which ultimately led to Rothbart's demise as Derek defeated him.
