After the huge success of Castle, there was speculation to what Nathan Fillion would do next The Rookie is not as dramatic as Castle but it does have its moments. The first season was just an introduction with more comedic episodes but in Season 2 the writers began to hit more dramatic key points.
With the big season-ending cliffhanger regarding John Nolan and Nick Armstrong, fans can't wait to see how the "frame" will turn out. Will Nolan be able to charm his way out of it or will get deadly before it gets better? Season 3 is set to be explosive
10 How Will Nolan Escape This Mess?
It was bound to happen sooner or later. Nolan, with all his wisdom and self-righteous ways, was bound to find himself in a tight situation. What hurts the most is that he was double-crossed by someone he considered a friend. As good of a Detective Armstrong is, this was all Nolan's fault.
But how will he get out of this? His training officer Nyla Harper knows the truth, but will it really be that easy? There will be some rough moments for Nolan and eventually the truth will come out.
9 Will We See A Tim And Lucy Romance
Even with Tim enjoying a romance with Rachel, you could tell that the writers were building up to something more. His relationship with his rookie "boot" Lucy Chen was steering more on the personal side of things than anything in Season 2. Is there a budding romance coming?
With Rachel moving to New York, will Lucy be there to help Tim through a trying time? The major obstacle here is that Lucy and Rachel are great friends.
8 Will Nolan Win Back Grace?
Season 2 was a moment of happiness for John Nolan. He was in a committed relationship with Jessica Russo but then that broke down and just as fast, he started a new one with an old friend in Grace Sawyer. Everything was going well until her estranged husband came back into town and said they should stay together for the sake of their son.
While it appears that Grace is taking that offer, is this really the end of their romance? Can Nolan win her back or will he have to start fresh in Season 3?
7 Will Jackson Recover From Losing A Friend
Jackson was never the strongest of the three rookies. He has frozen a few times in the line of duty and his know-it-all demeanor was a turn off in the beginning. However, he was starting to come around and get his feet planted on the job. But then the death of one of his Academy buddies shook him more than it did the others.
Will Jackson be able to survive this tragedy? Leading up to the Season 2 finale, he was still visibly shaken but he performed well in the field. Will there be moments where his feelings get the best of him?
6 Will There Be More Rosalind
One of the best storylines of the entire series so far had to do with Armstrong. Rosalind, and now Nolan. While a plan was devised to avoid the death penalty, Rosalind agreed to help the government find the bodies of the remaining people she murdered during her spree. While doing so, she struck up a weird relationship with officer Nolan.
However, her presence was a 180 from the usual wisecracks that take place on The Rookie. Will we get to see more of her in Season 3 or was this it?
5 Will Sergeant Grey Move To New York
During Season 2, it was revealed that Sergeant Grey's daughter was accepted to Columbia University. While it was received well, it did spark a moment of clarity for Grey. Leading a unit in Los Angeles is a dream of his but protecting his daughter is first priority.
Will he be willing to take a position in New York just to be with his daughter? While his presence on the show looms large in terms of leadership, he's not a central character that fans of The Rookie will miss if he has to be replaced.
4 Why Armstrong
Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau) of LOST fame is a great character. His friendship with Nolan has provided great bromance between the two. While "dirty cops" on cop shows go hand and hand, why did the writers have to place Armstrong as a villain? Could they not have picked another cop to be dirty? Maybe Harper?
But now that Armstrong is emerged as the "bad guy" in Season 2, what will happen to his character? Will he force Nolan or another cop to kill him? Will the Mob get him or will he be taken to jail?
3 Who Will Be The Next Major Death On The Force
Aside from Captain Anderson is Season One, there has not been a real central figure to die on The Rookie. But that will soon change. Amstrong may be the next big character to go but if he doesn't and he's taken to jail instead, will we see a major figure be killed off?
If bets were on the table, then it will be someone close to an office. Signs are pointing towards Wesley or maybe Harper's husband. Either will be a blow to Lopez and Harper and will provide a great storyline moving forward.
2 Will Harper Get Back With Her Husband
Since she first appeared on The Rookie, Haper has been in a nasty custody battle with her estranged husband. The details have been she had put her job first over her family and now she's paying price for her decisions. However, towards the end of Season 2, there were a few moments where the tension between the two subsided.
Is there a chance for reconciliation between the two parents? Harper needs this the most as she adores and misses her daughter.
1 Will We See Stana Katic In Season 3
The loyal fans of Castle have waited for an appearance by Stana Katic on The Rookie. In Season 2, there were guest appearances by Seamus Dever (Ryan) and Jon Huertas (Espo) so why not a reunion for Nathan Fillion and Katic? Recently, Katic shared that she has fond memories and is still a bit hurt on how it all went down in the final season. She never said she wanted to reunite, but she never said she didn't either.
A way to bring her into the storyline line would be Nolan's ex-wife. Viewers have yet to lay eyes on her and with Nolan's son pending wedding, this could be the perfect timing for the ultimate reunion.
