The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, are currently developing a live-action series adaptation of Death Note for Netflix. They’ve recently brought in a writer to help them, and that writer is Halia Abdel-Meguid, and she’ll also executive produce.
Abdel-Meguid has already worked with the Duffer Bros. on their upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 novel The Talisman. She’s also working on another Upside Down Pictures project currently in development at Netflix, and she was a writer on Hulu’s The Devil in the White City, which is being executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.
Death Note is a manga that was written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The story follows Light Yagami, a teenage boy who finds the Death Note, a mysterious black notebook that gives him the power to kill anyone whose name and face he knows if he writes their name down. He struggles having such almighty power, and becomes the target of law enforcement around the world.
This is the second time that Netflix has produced an adaptation of Death Note. They made a film in 2017 that a lot of fans did not like. So, hopefully, this series adaptation will be much better.
