Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige has enjoyed a long working relationship with James Gunn over the years with his work on Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier this week, we learned that Gunn is now the co-CEO of DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran, and together they will oversee all DC projects involving film, TV, and animation.
Feige has now responded to the exciting news regarding Gunn’s new job. In a recent interview with THR he said:
"I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out. We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May. How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line."
Gunn has been saying for some time now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be his final film for Marvel, and this new job at DC pretty much locks him into DC and Warner Bros. So, for those of you hoping he’d work with Marvel again, don’t hold your breath. Unless he manages to make a Marvel and DC crossover film happen!
I’m excited about Gunn’s future at DC Studios, and I can’t wait to see what his vision for the DC cinematic universe ends up being! Gunn and Safran previously shared in a statement:
"We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children. We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives on Disney+ on November 25, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following on May 5, 2023.
