Schitt's Creek: The 10 Biggest Secrets The Characters Kept

It is said that there are no secrets in a small town. Since the titular town in Schitt's Creek is a small town with a lot of big mouths, secrets are especially difficult to keep. However, that doesn't stop the characters from occasionally keeping things close to the chest before the truth inevitably comes out.

In some cases, the somewhat vain Rose family keeps secrets in order to avoid embarrassment. In other rare cases, some people hide the truth in order to avoid hurting someone's feelings. Whatever the reason, most of the main characters on Schitt's Creek had at least one big secret to hide.

10 David Leaves Town

By the end of Schitt's Creek, David Rose had become a very selfless person. But in season 1, he was still growing and was capable of some self-centered decisions. After learning that his family will not be moving, David simply leaves town without telling anyone where he is going.

The reason David kept this a secret from his family seemed to be that he didn't want them to follow him and bring him back. But when the family does track him down to a remote Amish farm, he is more than ready to leave.

9 Alexis Slept With Mutt

It wasn't only David whose plans were complicated by having to remain in Schitt's Creek. When she thought she was leaving town, Alexis turned down Ted's proposal and ended up sleeping with Mutt. But when it turned out she was staying, Ted assumed their relationship was back on.

Mutt insists if they are going to pursue their relationship together, Alexis has to tell Ted the truth. But each time she tries, she feels too bad for him. This causes Alexis to drag their breakup far longer than it needed to be.

8 Moira's Surprise Party

Planning a surprise party is no small feat, but that task becomes much more difficult when the person being celebrated is Moira Rose. David and Johnny go to great lengths to put together the last-minute party by organizing a fake fundraiser as a cover for the party.

As they desperately try to keep the secret from getting to Moira, they encounter a problem when the Rose matriarch decides she wants to take charge of the fundraiser herself. This eventually leads to David having to tell Moira the truth so she doesn't ruin everything. Moira's acting can be questionable at times, but she really oversells her excitement when she arrives at the party.

7 Twyla Is A Millionaire

Twyla is one of the most likable supporting characters in the show. As the friendly waitress of the Café Tropical, Twyla seems like the perfect down-to-earth person in a small town and she is immediately welcoming of the Roses.

However, Twyla is far from just a humble waitress. It is not until the final season of the show that she reveals to Alexis that she won the lottery years ago and is actually a millionaire. And as a perfect example of her kindness, she hid this from the Roses so as not to remind them of their own money trouble.

6 Alexis Can't Ride A Bike

One of the funniest recurring jokes on Schitt's Creek is Alexis's history of wild adventures. But while she spent her youth pulling herself out of numerous dangerous situations and being involved in eccentric relationships, she failed to learn typical kid stuff.

When Mutt gives Alexis a bicycle as a gift, she tries to get excited about it, although it is clearly just an act. She then is forced to confess her long-held secret that she never learned how to ride a bike. While it is an embarrassing admission for her, it does lead to her finally using a bicycle to travel around town.

5 Johnny's Illegal Raw Milk

It's fair to say that Johnny's business decisions on Schitt's Creek have always been a bit hit-or-miss. Sometimes that is his own fault and sometimes it is due to the people he chooses to do business with. In this case, it is a bit of both.

After coming up with the idea to sell raw milk, Johnny, Roland, and Alexis attempt to transport it out of town only to be stopped by the cops. Johnny tries to hide their illegal activity from the cops but Roland's nervous behavior gets them caught pretty quickly.

4 Alexis Still Loves Ted

Though they had a rocky start, Alexis and Ted's relationship on Schitt's Creek was truly heartwarming. The two rekindle a friendship after their engagement is broken off with Alexis even working for Ted at his vet clinic.

Over time, Alexis realizes she still loves Ted, but he is unfortunately in another relationship. Alexis realizes it would be unfair to him to reveal her feelings, so she keeps it a secret. Eventually, not able to hold onto it anymore, she tells Ted who reveals that he still loves her as well.

3 Patrick Comin Out

Another incredibly sweet relationship in Schitt's Creek was between Patrick and David. One thing that made it so heartwarming is how grateful Patrick is to David for coming to terms with his sexuality. However, that doesn't mean coming out was easy for him.

When David plans a surprise for Patrick's parents to visit for his birthday, Johnny accidentally reveals that Patrick is gay which his parents didn't know. Patrick explains to David that he hadn't told them yet because he was afraid of their reaction. Thankfully, his mom and dad are very supportive and even approving of David as his partner.

2 Stevie Is Still Seeing Jake

There are a lot of sweet romances on Schitt's Creek, but the ones involving Jake are more awkward than romantic. In season 3, Stevie and David discover that they are both dating Jake at the same time, forming a strange "throuple" situation. When Jake suggests they all date as a trio, David and Stevie decide to end things.

However, when Stevie offers her apartment to David and Patrick, her date arrives earlier than expected. Much to David's surprise and Patrick's amusement, Stevie's date is Jake. Not only does this awkward run-in embarrass Stevie, but it also reveals the history of the "throuple" to Patrick.

1 Patrick Bought A House

The final season of Schitt's Creek is focused on the evolving romance of David and Patrick that concludes with their wedding. However, there is a small hindrance when David tells Patrick he wants to leave Schitt's Creek once they are married. Patrick clearly doesn't like the idea but agrees if it makes David happy.

Not long after, David discovers Patrick had other plans for their future. After David remarked about liking a house in town so much, Patrick secretly made an offer to buy it for them to move into. After discovering the romantic gesture, David decides he wants to stay in Schitt's Creek.
