Lucifer: 10 Plot Twists That Everyone Saw Coming | ScreenRant

Lucifer does its best to keep its audience intrigued and make them guess what will happen next. The mysteries and secrets of the characters are a major reason why so many fans keep watching the show. Some of the plot twists, such as the true form and function of hell itself, have been surprising and even shocking for viewers.

However, not all twists turned out to be so unpredictable. Viewers who take into consideration the way the characters acted in the past or who have knowledge of well-known TV tropes have sometimes guessed what would happen next on Lucifer — long before it actually happened.

10 Lucifer Will Come Back From Hell

After Lucifer's forced departure to Hell in the season 4 finale, both he and Chloe were devastated. However, the fans knew it was only a matter of time before Lucifer would come back. So when such a scene happened early in Lucifer season 5, it came as no surprise. The only thing that might have astonished the fans was Michael's introduction, because Michael impersonated Lucifer until Chloe called him out on it.

9 The Lucifer-Chloe-Marcus Love Triangle

Love triangles are plot devices that a lot of modern fantasy shows like to use. So when the handsome Marcus Pierce showed up on Lucifer played by Tom Welling, some fans expected it would be only a matter of time before Pierce would try to get Chloe for himself. They were right. Fortunately for those who ship Lucifer with Chloe, Pierce turned out to be evil in the same season and met his end on the show.

8 Lucifer Uses A Crime To Solve His Personal Issues

During Lucifer's initial run on Fox, Lucifer usually used the cases he helped Chloe solve to deal with his personal issues or problems. Some fans eventually grew tired of this as the same storytelling pattern appeared in multiple episodes.

It was easy to predict when Lucifer would do something like this and it would subsequently irritate Chloe, who took her job seriously. Luckily for the fans, the show later chose a different approach. Seasons 4 and 5 on Netflix were less focused on Lucifer using his work to make sense of his personal life.

7 Lucifer Will Fall For Chloe

It wasn't Lucifer's habit to take his relationships too seriously... until Chloe came along. From the moment Lucifer started flirting with Chloe and discovered his mojo didn't work on her, it was easy to guess he would fall for her sooner or later. And that's exactly what happened not long afterward.

Despite his other romantic relationships (most notably with Eve), Lucifer loved Chloe for several seasons before Chloe acknowledged her love for Lucifer in the season 4 finale and before they became a couple in Lucifer season 5.

6 Maze Will Betray Lucifer... Again

Maze is a character many fans love, but she's not a loyal person not a very good friend to Lucifer. After she betrayed Lucifer and worked for Cain, the audience knew it was only a matter of time before Maze would do something like it again. She met their expectations in season 5 when she joined Michael's side because she had discovered Lucifer lied to her about her mother, Lilith.

Maze's actions aren't necessarily unreasonable, though. Lucifer isn't the type of person who would seem to take her feelings into consideration. That makes it easier for viewers to understand where she's coming from.

5 Linda Will Stick Around

When doctor Linda Martin first appeared, some fans thought she would be only a one-time character. However, most of them suspected that Linda would be in for the long run. Her importance grew over time as she integrated herself further into the lives of the characters. These days, she's one of the most popular characters on the show. Despite not being the main hero, Linda got her own storylines as well, most notably those dealing with the truth about her past and the daughter she gave up.

4 Eve And Lucifer Won't Work Out

When Eve and Lucifer started dating, the fans knew it was only a matter of time before the relationship would collapse. It seemed obvious from the start that Lucifer and Chloe were meant to be, so the only question that remained was how would they get together, not whether they would get together.

However, that didn't mean Eve's presence was wasted. It allowed the audience to witness a brand-new, softer side of Maze's personality as she fell for Eve. It also gave the fans the chance to learn even more about Lucifer's past and his background.

3 Lucifer Will Show His Real Nature To Chloe

There was only so much time Lucifer could keep his secret from Chloe. After showing his devil face to Linda, doing the same for Chloe was the next logical step. Lucifer would have kept it from Chloe as long as possible, but Marcus Pierce's attack left him no choice but to reveal himself, and Chloe learned the truth.

That led to a whole new series of trouble between Lucifer and Chloe. Luckily for them both, they were able to overcome their differences (more or less) in the end. At least Chloe stopped trying to send Lucifer back to hell.

2 Ella's Boyfriend Will Be Evil

When one considers all the romantic relationships on the show, most of them seem to end in disaster. Ella is one of the heroes who has very little luck in the love department. As Ella herself put it, she tends to go for the bad guys.

So when Ella started dating the journalist Pete who was overly nice, the fans grew suspicious of him. It seemed unlikely that Ella would suddenly strike romantic gold. The fans were right not to trust the relationship. Pete turned out to be a serial killer who planned to murder Ella.

1 Lucifer Will Get Back His Wings

A major deal with Lucifer was the loss of his wings. More specifically, he had them cut off in his determination never to return to hell. But just like with Amenadiel, the audience knew that Lucifer would eventually get his wings back.

The reason for this is simple. Fans believed the show wouldn't put so much focus on Lucifer's missing wings if the creators didn't plan to bring them back sooner or later. When it finally happened, it wasn't a real surprise. The moment was earned, though, and it showcased Lucifer's development as a character (as well as Amenadiel's).
