When John Walker became Captain America, he lost control after suffering an extreme tragedy, leading to his darkest moment in Marvel Comics. In the early run following Walker's turn as the new Cap, his parents are killed right in front of him by a terrorist organization, leading him to kill everyone who stood in his way, in an extremely brutal and bloody scene.
When Steve Rogers opted for a change and abandoned the Captain America moniker and costume to become the Captain, John Walker was appointed in the role by the U.S. Government. Walker struggled to live up to the previous precedent Rogers set and had bursts of anger and violent tendencies the previous Cap would never act on. Much like when he murdered a member of the Flagsmashers in Falcon and Winter Soldier after the accidental death of his partner Battlestar, Walker used his shield to beat a small-time villain, Professor Power, to death. But his darkest act was much more violent.
In Captain America #345 by Mark Gruenwald, Kieron Dwyer, Al Milgrom, Bob Sharen, and Jack Morelli, a terrorist organization known as the Watchdogs kidnap Walker's parents. The group is led by Left-Winger and Right-Winger, who used to be part of the Buckies, who were angry and upset that Lemar Hoskins was chosen to be his sidekick and they weren't. Walker agrees to meet with the group and is driven to a farm, where they try to hang him with his parents watching. Once the rope is wrapped around his neck, Walker breaks free and attacks the Watchdogs. In response, gunfire breaks out and his parents are killed. Walker loses control and goes on a vicious killing spree.
Walker kills all of the Watchdogs and sits by his parent's lifeless bodies while refusing to accept they were dead. Walker couldn't overcome the trauma of losing his parents and ultimately misses their funeral so he can track down and kill Left-Winger and Right-Winger - as he ties them up and sets off a massive explosion. Walker would continue to lose control and suffer a major mental breakdown until he gave Rogers his shield and costume back - thus setting the wheels into motion for his time as U.S Agent.
While Walker always had a more violent approach than Steve Rogers as Captain America, watching his parents die caused him extreme emotional trauma that led to one of the most violent killing sprees by a hero not named the Punisher. His MCU kill was brutal, but compared to the comics, it wasn't nearly as vicious. While he didn't kill innocents, John Walker's revenge killings changed him forever and sent him down his darkest path ever.
