Final Fantasy 14: How to Unlock The New Mounts in Patch 5.5

Final Fantasy 14 has been updated to patch 5.5, bringing new gameplay features and challenges. This mostly includes features for those well through the Shadowbringers expansion. However, PlayStation 4 players can also experience the PlayStation 5 beta at no extra charge. This will allow faster load times and higher graphical resolution during the base game and all the older expansions.

Players that have at least made it within Heavensward and beyond will have access to several new mounts. Some of these mounts can be quickly purchased with gil, others from crafting and gathering events, while the most coveted come from battle. This may come naturally for players who are already seeking out new PlayStation 5 Trophies or the existing in-game achievements.

The latest patch adds in new mounts for dedicated Disciples of Hand, Disciples of Land, or those that just have a lot of extra money. Despite this, players will need to be at least level 50 in a combat job and made their way through the storylines of multiple expansions. Another option is to also buy them from the Market Boards for an astronomically inflated price.

Purchased Mounts

Two new mounts have been added to vendors. Edelina in Mor Dhona sells the Gilded Mikoshi for 50,000,000 Gil, while Tabeth in Elmore sells the Golden Ronkan for 25,000,000 Gil. However, these are not totally new mounts, just reskins of existing mounts. Players can pick up free versions of these mounts - the Mikoshi and Great Vessel of Ronka - by completing daily Beast Tribe quests designed from level 60 to 80. While only six of these can be done each day, it will quickly level up classes, teach crafting techniques, and save an absurd amount of money. One drawback though is that to unlock these tribes in the first place, they must have passed story milestones including the level 66 main story quest In Crimson They Walked, and level 75 quest Bearing With It.

Ishgardian Restoration Mounts

The other two mounts are related to the Restoration of Ishgard. Like all other quests regarding the Firmament, players will need to already have cleared the content from patch 3.3 and be at least level 60 as a combat job. Now that every server has completed rebuilding the Firmament (even if one’s own character has not) a new system called Fetes can occur. As the name implies, Fetes are essentially FATEs designed exclusively for crafters and gatherers. Up to twelve Fetes can spawn per server, followed by a full 48 hours before they may start up again. Because each server is a different instance, exact timing will change as more players participate and complete (or fail) at various rates. Players can also use the world visit system to attempt Fetes on the same data center.

Fete objectives can have a great variety from performing timed emotes, delivering items, and interacting with NPCs or objectives. Players are actively competing rather than cooperating, and the more participants mean better prizes. Scoring high enough (which results in others having worse scores of their own) can reward EXP, Skybuilder Scrips, and brand new Fete Tokens. Players that succeed in obtaining 30 Fete Tokens can trade them to Enie for the Antelope Stag mount. The same vendor also sells the Antelope Doe for 8,400 Skybuilder Scrips; however, she also has other new items in 5.5 which may require either budgeting or extra farming to have enough currency.

The latest patch also adds in two new mounts that can be acquired by completing combat Trials. The first of these is the Diamond Gwiber, which is a possible drop from Diamond Weapon. Players will need to be level 80, fished all of patch 5.2, and bested Ruby Weapon, Sapphire Weapon, and Emerald Weapon. Once these are all achieved, players can accept the quest Duty in the Sky with Diamonds from the Resistance Officer in the Lochs. Players will need to be item level 495 for the first round, and item level 510 to unlock the Extreme mode. While this fight is mainly to collect item level 525 weapons, there is a small chance that the Gwiber whistle will drop. However, all eight members of the party will have a chance to roll on the item if it does spawn. While C’intana in MorDhona doesn’t currently offer the mount for trade, she will likely relent by the release of Endwalker. Those that can hold out can collect 99 Diamond Tokens and trade them in once the update patch releases. In the meantime, as a consolation players can also gain materials for Chocobo Diamond Barding (crafted by Armorers).

The final mount is Landerwaffe and even harder to get. Players must already have obtained the Diamond Gwiber, along with six other mounts: Fae Gwiber from The Dancing Plague Extreme, Innocent Gwiber from The Crown of the Immaculate Extreme, Shadow Gwiber from The Minstrel’s Ballad Hades Elegy, Gwiber of Light from The Seat of Sacrifice Extreme, Ruby Gwiber from The Cinder Drift Extreme, and Emerald Gwiber from Castrum Marinum Extreme. As with Diamond Gwiber, Emerald Gwiber is also very hard to get as it cannot be purchased via tokens and instead must be completely won as a drop. This is also likely to be remedied during or even before Endwalker.

After all of this is accomplished, speak to the Warmachina Fanatic in the Lochs for the level 80 quest The Dragon Made. This will instruct the player to go to Azys Lla. Once there, the Wandering Minstrel will present the Landerwaffe whistle. This mount is extra special as it is a two-seater, allowing pilots to escort a passage even if they lack the ability to fly themselves.

While these are the new mounts available from all players, there are still more waiting in the update files. The future update to the Bozjan Resistance weapon will likely include mount rewards for completing content. When the 2021 Fanfest broadcasts, paying viewers will receive the eight seated Lunar Whale, along with other bonuses. The mount for the next Moonfire Faire is also slated to be a Polar Bear. While these last two mounts will be limited to those that acquire them during a seasonal window, there is still plenty of content within patch 5.5 for everyone else.
