Celebrity Sleepover: Johnny Bananas Explains His ‘Monumental’ Show Win

Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio has transitioned into hosting NBC's Celebrity Sleepover, but he's still remembered for his seven wins on MTV's The Challenge. After taking home his seventh win in Total Madness, Johnny spoke exclusively with ScreenRant and dished on the "monumental accomplishment."

With seven wins under his belt, Johnny is just one ahead of show veteran Chris "CT" Tamburello. The two both got their start on The Real World before becoming familiar faces as repeat competitors on The Challenge. With them being a bit older in age from their early years on the show, their recent wins as seasoned vets only solidified their GOAT titles. Viewers were surprised to see Bananas skip out on competing in Double Agents, but he has been getting comfortable in his new role as a late-night talk show host.

During an exclusive chat with ScreenRant, Johnny revisited his last Challenge win and explained how the victory helped prepare him for his TV transition. "I will say that Total Madness really pushed me to my breaking point mentally, physically, and emotionally," Johnny admitted. "And that's why I think that win was such a monumental accomplishment, just because of what I went through." The natural competitor was put through the wringer and successfully came out on top, despite all the odds that were against him.

With him being known for his confident demeanor, Johnny confessed how hard it would've been for him to go through that and lose. "It would have been gut-wrenching otherwise," Johnny added. "It was hard enough to bounce back and get back to my normal self having won, because at least I went through all this and there was a reason for it. I couldn't imagine having put myself through all that and having not won." We're sure recent competitors like Fessy Shafaat could relate.

Johnny has kept himself filled in on the current season despite his absence. His loyalty to The Challenge is represented in his Celebrity Sleepover set. The seven-time champion incorporated small momentos from previous seasons into his living room, where Celebrity Sleepover is filmed. He has expressed his hopes to join the ranks of The Miz in professional wrestling and continue growing his portfolio as a show host. But Johnny Bananas isn't done competing on The Challenge just yet. Fans will just have to wait and see if he returns for another season or joins the new All-Stars spin-off on Paramount+.
