After the huge success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which was primarily thrown into production due to pressure from fans, audiences are back on Twitter and are again demanding the world of Warner Bros. There are loads of movies that deserve the Snyder Cut treatment, but more than anything else, fans want an “Ayer cut” of Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer. And if there’s any movie that needs it, fans feel it’s Suicide Squad.
With a troubled production, studio interference, and so much unused footage, fans have stormed Twitter with #ReleaseTheAyerCut, which has now gotten millions of tweets. Though the upcoming sequel/soft reboot The Suicide Squad looks great and is one of the most anticipated movies of 2021, it clearly isn’t enough.
10 The Ayer Cut Exists?
Though it’s a long shot, by Warner Bros. telling fans that they won’t release an Ayer cut of Suicide Squad, they have inadvertently also told fans that the cut does actually seem to exist. But it could also just mean that Warner Bros. has to work on their wording when they make announcements.
There’s so much footage fans haven’t seen, and while Suicide Squad might not be one of Margot Robbie’s best films, it’s one of her best roles, as she brought the character of Harley Quinn to life. And if there’s any possibility of seeing more of the character in unseen footage from the first movie, Warner Bros. can bet their bottom dollar that every Twitter user will read into their comments and put a positive spin on it in any way they can.
9 Batman Buys Warner Bros.
It’s actually extremely unlikely that Warner Bros. does have an Ayer cut that they are just keeping it locked in a vault. But if that was ever the case, this meta-joke puts it perfectly. The joke references Zack Snyder's Justice League and a line that comes near the end.
When Clark Kent questions how Bruce Wayne was able to acquire his family farm from the bank, Bruce has a perfectly in-character response. He says that he simply went out and bought the bank. It pays to be Batman.
8 Not Impressed
One of the most striking changes to the Justice League in Zack Snyder’s edit is when Superman saves Cyborg’s life, as he stands in front of Steppenwolf when he tries slashing Cyborg with his giant axe. The axe lands on Superman’s shoulder like how a pillow would hit a brick.
It’s a cool moment, and Superman tells Steppenwolf that he’s not impressed, but it has quickly become somewhat of a meme. This time around, it has been expertly used by a fan to show their feelings towards Warner Bros.’ decision to not work on an Ayer cut and end the SnyderVerse.
7 Leaking The Ayer Cut
Tweeting at the director of the movie himself, one Twitter user hilariously tries urging him to leave a USB with his cut installed on it in a public bathroom, insinuating that someone would find it and leak it to the world. The tweet is also attached to an incredible fan-made movie poster for the Ayer cut.
If the cut actually existed, it wouldn’t be the first time creators have leaked things themselves. Ryan Reynolds leaked test footage of Deadpool while it was in development hell so fans would put pressure on 20th Century Fox, and John Boyega accidentally left a screenplay of Rise of the Skywalker in a hotel room only for a cleaner to find.
6 Forming An Alliance
David Ayer is actually extremely active on Twitter, and though he won’t comment too much on all of the fans’ demands, he’s humble enough to give respect where it’s due, as he praised the newly released trailer for the upcoming The Suicide Squad.
As James Gunn, the director of the new movie, is also active on Twitter, he was quick to show how much he appreciates Ayer’s work too. And it’s incredible to see the mutual appreciation in the middle of tons of toxic demands and fights between studios and fans.
5 Suicide Squad Or THE Suicide Squad
Given the fact that the first Suicide Squad was heavily-panned for several reasons, it isn’t exactly the movie that people gravitate towards when looking for something to watch.
But given that The Suicide Squad is looking like a soft reboot of the first movie, reboots aren’t exactly something fans are excited for in the future of the DCEU. So to some DCEU fans, Suicide Squad is looking pretty good right now. But credit where credit is due, the trailer for The Suicide Squad hits every beat perfectly, and the new characters seem hilarious.
4 Produced By The Snyders
One hawk-eyed fan was quick to find a piece of information that begs the question, “How deep does the rabbit hole go?” In the credits at the bottom of the poster, it shows that The Suicide Squad was executive produced by Zack and Deborah Snyder.
With the former obviously having just released “The Snyder Cut,” which wouldn’t have happened without the support of the fans, it raises suspicions over whose side Snyder is on and whether or not he supports the campaign for the Ayer cut.
3 Studio Interference
Older articles are getting unearthed surrounding the production of Suicide Squad and all of the studio interference. Ayer has stated himself that the studio was making overruling and haphazard decisions during production due to the backlash of Batman v. Superman and the popularity of Deadpool, which is what led to the messy final product.
Studio interference is one of the biggest reasons why fans wanted The Snyder Cut, as 60% of the original movie wasn’t even shot by the original director, and it’s the biggest reason why fans now want an Ayer cut.
2 Fans’ Thought Process
With the two options being “if it’s meant to be, it will be,” and “if you want it, go and get it,” there are no prizes for guessing which route the fans went. The fans are trying to go out and get the Ayer cut by hounding anyone and everyone affiliated with Suicide Squad to #ReleaseTheAyerCut.
However, it isn’t just the fans’ thought process either, but it’s advice that fans are now trying to give David Ayer, as this account literally tweeted the director the quote.
1 All The Deleted Scenes
There have been rumblings of all the unseen bonus footage of Suicide Squad for years, ever since the movie was released. There are apparently tons of unused material of the Joker that’s just lying on the cutting room floor, and most people know this because Jared Leto hasn’t hidden his feelings about it.
Leto’s gangster-like portrayal of the character is memorable whether you were a fan of it or not. The above screenshots hint at a truly disturbing scene that could be incredible. However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League does feature a lengthy appearance from the character at the end, which almost redeems the character’s portrayal in Suicide Squad.
