Curb Your Enthusiasm: 10 Most Relatable Memes | ScreenRant

Larry David's fictionalized persona on Curb Your Enthusiasm is often a selfish, ignorant, and terrible person - but also relatable in some ways when it comes to his introverted personality.

There are so many quips and jokes in the show that are perfect setups for memes - plus with its many iconic awkward moments Curb Your Enthusiasm has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. Here are ten relatable Curb Your Enthusiasm memes from around the web.

10 Punk Vocalists

A large portion of any Curb Your Enthusiasm episode involves Larry being uncomfortable, awkward, frustrated, or just enraged - and as a result, he's often yelling.

While there have been times that Larry doesn't subscribe to certain social norms when it's convenient for him (such as leaving a dinner party before dessert is served), he will often berate others who bend the "unwritten rules". It might seem hypocritical but in Larry's mind, it's justice done on behalf of society.

9 Hedge Fund Billionaires

This meme featuring Marty Funkhouser is from Jalal Kalam, admin of "Curb Your Enthusiasm Baldposting" on Facebook. Larry's relationship with Funkhouser wasn't always easy and they were often at each other's throats. Their fights were usually because of something Larry did, like taking a golf club from Funkhouser's father's coffin or stealing flowers from his mother's memorial, or even indirectly killing his nephew Kenny, "the jewel of the Funkhouser family tree". Sadly, Bob Einstein passed away in 2019 following a cancer diagnosis. Einstein's hilarious portrayal of Funkhouser, and his one-of-a-kind comedic dynamic with Larry brought so much to the show. Einstein will be fondly remembered for his work on Curb, Arrested Developmentas well as many other movies, shows, and projects throughout his long-spanning career.

8 Favorite Game

Sometimes a relationship with another person can be comparable to an entertaining but frustrating videogame - even if you get annoyed and discouraged, you always end up logging back on. As with many friendships, Larry and his friends go through a lot of ups and downs together. No matter how much they frustrate each other, Larry and Richard Lewis' friendship, while questionable, has stood the test of time -  and their playful yet spiteful banter is one of the best parts of the show.

7 Directed By Robert B. Weide

Curb Your Enthusiasm is best known for its perfect execution of painfully awkward situations, so much so that "Larry David Moments" has become a staple in pop culture and internet memes. The "Directed By Robert B. Weide" meme is one of the most recognizable memes from Curb. It usually comes in the form of a clip depicting an awkward, funny or unfortunate situation, followed by the iconic Curb intro and outro music with the title card "Directed by Robert B. Weide". It's another example of the extensive cultural impact Curb Your Enthusiasm has.

6 When A Stranger Tells You To Smile

Hopefully, most people understand that it's impolite to tell a stranger to smile - in fact, this can often be considered street harassment. This is something that typically happens to women or young people in the service industry - but the script is flipped in this episode of Curb. A woman passes by Larry and she chipperly tells him to smile. Larry turns around with a disgusted look on his face and tells her to mind her own business. It's a perfect response that anyone who has been in this situation probably wished they thought of at that moment. It's also one of the few times Larry has handled an uncomfortable or awkward situation relatively appropriately.

5 Human Contact

Even before the coronavirus pandemic, there have always been introverts who might prefer watching movies at home to a night out on the town. Larry would definitely fall into this category: he's always reluctant to attend events or host parties, and he'll even go to extreme lengths to get out of hanging out.

While some of his antisocial antics are exaggerated, in a lot of ways Larry is a relatable champion of introverts. His methods of getting out of social obligations are both hilariously extreme and admirable.

4 Why You're Still Single

This is another favorite line for both introverts and those unlucky in love. There's probably never been a worse time in recent history to be dating, but watching Larry try to navigate dating after divorcing Cheryl would make anyone feel better about themselves. Besides his relationship with Cheryl and Loretta, Larry has struggled to maintain a relationship longer than a couple of dates; his awkwardness, callousness, and lack of social awareness make it difficult to the point where he'd rather just be alone most of the time.

3 The Human Voice

Since his divorce from Cheryl, Larry's withdrawn and wallflower personality seems to expand and the circle of people he tolerates gets smaller. He becomes more of a curmudgeon, makes poor decisions, and even starts up a "spite store" business in order to put one of many arch nemeses, Mocha Joe, into financial ruin. He's someone who just doesn't like other humans very much. Most people don't always feel this way, but viewers can sometimes relate to disliking being around people, especially in a classroom setting or sitting through a long lecture.

2 Ordering Starbucks

This is another relatable meme for anyone who has visited Starbucks or an even more posh coffee shop for the first time. For people with social anxiety, it can be stressful to navigate the menu and make an order. So it's particularly hilarious and offbeat to see him make an order in such a blunt way, not even trying to correctly specify what he wants. Ironically, Larry would later open his own coffee shop out of spite - but instead of a quirky and posh atmosphere, it has weird tableside coat racks, fire hazards, and a downright bizarre bathroom setup.

1 Respect Wood

"Do you respect wood" is one of the more iconic lines from Curb Your Enthusiasm. It came just when there was a glimmer of hope for Larry to get back together with his ex-wife Cheryl. Just as they're about to hook up, he discovers that Cheryl is the one who left a glass ring stain on an antique wooden table at Julia Louis-Dreyfus' house - something that he was blamed for, despite his self-proclaimed respect for wood. He blows up on her and she leaves, all because of his intense reaction to the ring stain - and thus another iconic Larry David Moment was born.
