10 Of The Worst Things Indiana Jones Did, Ranked | ScreenRant

Undoubtedly, Indiana Jones is one of the most beloved heroes in cinema history. He is a brave, charismatic and determined man who the audience can really get behind. But rewatching all the movies in the franchise, it becomes clear that Indy wasn't always the noble hero fans thought he was.

Sure, he saves the day many times and beats up Nazis, but there are a lot of things he does that range from questionable to downright deplorable. From creating dangerous situations to his treatment of certain characters, even a hero like Indiana Jones has done some pretty awful things.

10 Trying To Kill Willie And Short Round

In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indy and her companions find themselves in the midst of a sacrificial ritual. After being captured by the villains, Indy is forced to drink some magic blood which puts him under their control.

Indy then becomes a mindless brute who smacks his child companion Short Round and almost burns his love interest Willie alive. Of course, Indy cannot be blamed for this as it was out of his control but it is disturbing to see the hero become such a villain.

9 Ditching His Students

Given how much time Indy spends traveling around the world and fighting bad guys, it's easy to forget that he actually has a real job as a college professor. But while he is an excellent adventurer, Indy continues to prove he is a terrible professor.

After telling his students that he will be available in his office, a bunch of them show up with questions, probably because their teacher is never around to teach them. His secretary also reminds him he hasn't graded their papers. Instead of getting to work and addressing the needs of the students, Indy slips out the window and leaves.

8 Diner Fight

When Indy finds himself in a tight spot, he's usually pretty good about coming up with a good plan on the fly. However, sometimes that plan is at the expense of people who are completely innocent.

When Indy and his new partner Mutt are cornered by Russians in a diner, he makes Mutt punch some poor college boy in the face for no reason which starts a huge and violent brawl that probably got some people who were minding their own business very hurt.

7 Bringing The Diary

When Indy is sent a diary with clues to the location of the Holy Grail by his father, it sets him off on yet another adventure to find his old man and save him. Indy also brings along the diary and uses it to continue his father's quest.

However, when Indy goes to rescue his father from the Nazis, he discovers that his father sent him the diary in order to keep it out of the hands of his enemies. Instead, Indy brought the valuable diary right to them.

6 Not Destroying The Ark

Indy is keen on saving the world when he needs to, but he also gets clouded with his fascination with the ancient artifacts that he chases. While this usually just endangers himself, sometimes he is willing to set aside the greater good to protect these items.

As Indy searches for the Ark of the Covenant, he also tries to keep it out of the hands of the Nazis who plan to use it to win the war. After catching up with the Nazis, he threatens to blow up the ark unless they let Marion go. Instead, they call his bluff knowing that he could never bring himself to destroy it and Indy surrenders.

5 Kidnapping Willie

In the opening scene of Temple of Doom, Indy takes on a gangster in his club. After some tense negotiating, Indy realizes he is outnumbered and grabs Willie, the club's singer as a hostage. Seeing as Indy is supposed to be the hero, seeing him threaten this innocent woman with a knife is pretty shocking.

Not only does Indy threaten Willie, but he kidnaps her, taking her on various dangerous journeys with him. While she understandably complains about almost dying several times, he treats her shows no remorse for putting her in that position.

4 Using Short Round

It is fine if Indy wants to put himself in danger in certain situations, but he also puts others in danger, including little kids. One of his most notable companions in Short Round, a little boy who looks up to Indy and helps him on his missions.

But not only does Indy clearly not know how to care for a child, he lets this impressionable kid continuously risk his life. In the opening sequence alone, Short Round is made to drive a car in a high-speed chase while they are being shot at.

3 Not Freeing Marion

Once again, this is an example of how Indy's obsession with these artifacts prevents him from doing the right thing and turns him into a bit of a jerk.

When Marion is captured by the Nazis, Indy manages to track her down as he finds the true location of the Ark. However, as he is untying her, he realizes that if he helps her escape, the Nazis will know he's there, and he won't be able to get the Ark. Instead, he leaves her tied up even though he didn't know if she was going to be tortured or killed.

2 Stealing Artifacts From Indigenous Peoples

Indy often faces off with villains who are after the same artifacts that he is. While they want it for their own greedy or evil reasons, Indy always insists that these things belong in a museum. That is meant to be a noble stance to take, but it is also very narrow-minded.

Indy is basically saying that the indigenous people of these countries, some of whom are shown to worship or have religious reverence for these artifacts, don't deserve them. Instead, he feels they should be in a museum where Americans get to look at them and study them.

1 His History With Marion

When watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, it is easy to get swept up in how dashing of a hero Indy is. Then there is one scene that makes the audience question if this is a guy they should be cheering for at all.

When Indy seeks out Marion to collect a medallion that belongs to her father, there is mention of their history together. Marion lashes out at him and seems to imply they had a relationship when Indy was an adult and Marion was a teen. If that wasn't gross enough, Indy basically tells her to get over it and give him the medallion.
