Have you ever wanted to cuddle an Evangelion Entry Plug? Yes, that is an absolutely bizarre question, but, thanks to the Evangelion Store in Japan, this seemingly odd idea is now an actual possibility. That's right, the official Neon Genesis Evangelion store is releasing a full body pillow designed to look like an actual Evangelion Entry Plug.
Although it originally aired on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996, it seems that new merch has been non-stop for Neon Genesis Evangelion ever since its recent re-release on Netflix brought it back into the spotlight. From insanely cool Evangelion-Inspired Wireless Earphones allowing the wearer to feel like part of the Nerv pilots team, down to Official Evangelion Emergency Rations that allow you to eat like one, the gear has been nonstop. Now fans can not only eat meals and jam to tunes like an Evangelion Pilot, they can even sleep like they power a giant mecha too (well sorta).
In the series, an Evangelion Entry Plug is a large, human-sized capsule that holds the mech's pilot, serving as their "entry" into the machine. Acting like a cockpit, the Entry Plug is inserted into the pilot's Evangelion and gives them control over the behemoth. The plugs are designed to be incredibly damage resistant, giving the pilots an added layer of protection when the mech is suffering intense damage. Other plugs, such as the Signal Termination Plug and the Dummy Plug also exist, each with their own purpose.
Unfortunately, these wildly awesome pillows aren't quite to scale, so no, one cannot crawl inside and sleep in it like a cocoon, however, they are still big enough to function as a full body pillow. Despite the size difference, everything else about it is accurate to the series and should be instantly recognizable by any fan. No word yet on whether it will endure stains from the official Evangelion emergency rations.
While it is true that this item will only available at this time directly from the official Neon Genesis Evangelion store, with physical locations only existing in Osaka, Tokyo, and Shinjuku, the good news is that international shipping is available, meaning no matter where one lives they can still purchase and enjoy this wonderful merch. Scheduled to release on January 23, 2021, the pillow will convert to cost about around $75 USD. Those interested in the pillow (and other exclusive Neon Genesis Evangelion gear and goodies) can head over to their site here. These types of products tend to go fast so good luck and happy hunting!
