Bridgerton: 10 Worst Decisions Characters Made In Season One

Shonda Rhimes' new series on Netflix, Bridgerton, definitely had viewers hooked to their screens. This Regency-era drama combines some of the classic tropes in the genre with a more modern, sexy, and dramatic approach to the story. It's campy, ridiculous, and fun, and it’s made interesting because the main characters don't always make the best decisions.

While fans anxiously await a second season, it’s a good time to reflect on the characters in the show and where they went wrong.

10 Siena: Trusting Anthony

Sabrina is someone who really gets screwed over by the men in her life. She isn’t a high society lady who is protected, and she doesn’t have family money to take care of herself. Instead, she has to find her way in the world, and she’s determined to secure a future for herself by finding a man she can trust.

However, while it’s not her fault, she learns a hard lesson that she can’t rely on men like Anthony to really have her back.

9 Queen Charlotte: The way she treats others

Queen Charlotte might be a great representation of a world that’s mostly not impacted by race, but she’s also kind of an awful person. She is extremely judgemental of everyone around her which is probably pretty common for royalty, but she’s also just obsessed with drama.

She’s not very kind or pleasant, and her boredom spurs her to create too much chaos. Her choice to behave in this way could come back to haunt her.

8 Lady Featherington: Her hatred of Marina

The Featherington family is used as somewhat of a foil for the Bridgertons. While the Bridgertons have a better reputation and are closer as a family, the Featherington’s have a lot of issues and don’t get along well.

Portia, the matriarch of the family, is controlling and often mean. She treated Marina horribly from the moment she arrived because she sees her as a threat. This choice was one she certainly could have made differently.

7 Benedict: Not fully embracing the artistic lifestyle yet

Benedict might be one of the most interesting members of the Bridgerton family. As the third son, he has relative freedom to make his own way in life. And, as he discovers a type of lifestyle that is much freer and creative, he sees the allure of leaving behind high-class society.

He hasn’t really made any huge mistakes so far on the show, but it would probably be best for him to just completely embrace that lifestyle instead of trying to be in both worlds.

6 Colin: Rushing into his relationship with Marina

Colin might be a sweet person and overall gentleman, but he’s also a bit naive and young. He clearly hasn’t had to learn how to look out for himself, and he falls for Marina’s seduction easily.

It’s a bit sad because he clearly means well, but he should have listened to the advice of others around him and been a bit slower in jumping into the relationship.

5 Marina: Not understanding the gravity of her situation

Marina is a woman stuck in an impossible situation in a cruel world. There really aren’t many options for women in general, and they are held to insanely strict double standards of morality.

It’s definitely not fair, but it's the reality of the world Marina lives in when she gets pregnant out of wedlock. While viewers felt bad for her, she also refused to really take opportunities to better her situation when they were presented to her.

4 Anthony: Pretty much everything he did

While some viewers like Anthony, it’s hard to see why. He’s extremely selfish and makes horrible decisions that hurt others around him. Firstly, even though he has a lot more freedom and power in society than his sisters, he whines about his role as the eldest brother. This leads him to nearly ruin Daphne’s life by trying to force her to marry Nigel.

He also treats Siena horribly. He promises to take care of her only to leave her and then come groveling back. We are supposed to feel bad for the situation he’s in, but it’s hard to find sympathy.

3 Penelope: Being Lady Whistledown

This reveal was a bit reminiscent of the Gossip Girl reveal. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. Penelope doesn’t seem to have the ability and experience to write as she did, and she would even write cruelly about those close to her.

It makes her seem very two-faced, and she will likely pay the price for it in the future.

2 Simon: Not telling the truth about why he couldn’t marry and have kids

Simon is the standout character of the series. He’s charming, gorgeous, and has a traumatic childhood. It’s no wonder so many people love him. However, his issues with communication were hard to watch.

Instead of just being honest with Daphne about his father and why he didn’t want to marry and have children, he caused lots of problems for himself, her, and the two of them.

1 Daphne: Assaulting Simon

This is one of the most problematic scenes from the entire series. It’s hard to talk about because Daphne had absolutely zero understanding of sexual activity and consent, and she didn’t even know how babies were made when she got married.

However, this scene is still extremely upsetting as by today’s standards she did assault Simon.
