The Mandalorian season 2, episode 7, "The Believer" revealed there are certain privileges that Cara Dune has as Marshal of the New Republic. After unofficially acting as the Marshal of Nevarro following Moff Gideon's defeat on the planet in season 1, Cara Dune officially became a Marshal of the New Republic when the pilot Carson Teva gave her a New Republic badge, which came after she, Mando, Greef Karga, and the Mythrol rid the planet of the Empire's presence.
In "The Believer", Cara Dune uses her authority as a marshal to get Migs Mayfeld released from prison (for a limited amount of time, at least), which indicates that marshals have some level of executive authority. Even though she did not - as far as viewers know - preside over Mayfeld's sentencing, she's still able to have an impact on the details of his captivity. Moreover, the fact that Cara Dune was able to get Mayfeld, who was sentenced to 50 years for springing another prison and being an accessory to the death of a Republic officer, temporarily released shows that her powers are not limited to only petty thieves. Her judgment is able to override even some of the most intense sentences.
Earlier in "The Tragedy", when Din Djarin returns to Cara Dune for help, she's able to immediately access information on current prisoners. From the looks of the program shown onscreen, it's likely that this is a complete database of every prisoner being held by the New Republic. Though it's unclear whether this resource includes past prisoners, it's certainly impressive that Dune can locate any New Republic prisoner in the galaxy at any moment.
However, Cara Dune's powers as Marshal of the New Republic are not unlimited. When Din Djarin first approaches her to spring Mayfeld from prison, she's a bit apprehensive at first, stating, "You know how I feel about the Empire, but these stripes mean there are rules I need to follow." It's implied here that, as much as she might want to use her privileges, she cannot do so without legitimate cause. As soon as Djarin mentions that the Empire has captured Grogu, that's all the reason she needs to spring into action.
As a marshal, Cara Dune also has some control over the official report at the end of missions. In "The Believer," she decides to allow Bill Burr's Migs Mayfeld to go free on the planet Morak, riffing with Djarin that, "You know, it's too bad Mayfeld didn't make it out alive back there... Looked to me like prisoner 34667 died in a refinery explosion on Morak." Though it takes some time for Mayfeld to get the hint, he eventually catches on and walks off to enjoy his new freedom.
With all that power shown in only two episodes, Cara Dune will be even greater ally for Din Djarin in quest to get Grogu back. Her privileges just might make a face off with Djarin and Moff Gideon happen sooner than expected in The Mandalorian.
