Scream 5 Casts 13 Reasons Why & Booksmart Actors | Screen Rant

Scream 5 adds more names to its cast with Booksmart's Mason Gooding and 13 Reasons Why's Dylan Minnette. The last Scream film debuted back in 2011, and for years it was unclear if there would be another installment in the slasher franchise. The passing of creator Wes Craven in 2015 added an extra layer of uncertainty. However, rumors started last year that a Scream 5 was in development, and they were proven correct in March when Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett signed on to helm the project. Since then, a slew of major names have been added to the cast list.

Most excitingly, three franchise icons will be back for Scream 5: David Arquette, Courteney Cox, and original scream queen Neve Campbell. Campbell was the last of the three to sign on, with her involvement only being announced on Thursday. In addition to the three veterans, Scream 5 will feature new characters played by Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, and Jenna Ortega. Their characters remain unknown for the time being. Now, mere hours after Campbell's return was announced, the Scream 5 cast list has grown by a few more names.

Deadline reports Gooding and Minnette have scored unnamed roles in Scream 5. Gooding was recently seen in Hulu's Love, Victor, while Minnette wrapped up Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. Also included in this roll call are Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison. Additionally, Marley Shelton will return as Sheriff Judy Hicks, her role from Scream 4.

Scream 5 is really rounding out its cast now, which falls in line with its previous timeline. Paramount and Spyglass were initially aiming for a 2021 release, but various release date shuffles have pushed the film to January 2022. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but there's no doubt that Ghostface will be back to terrorize a new group of victims. In fact, several of the new characters will likely end up falling prey to Ghostface's knife, though some even theorize that Campbell's Sidney Prescott could be among the first to die. That would certainly be quite the blow for the franchise.

Filming will take place in Wilmington, North Carolina, and while there were rumbles of things picking up later this year, it remains to be seen if the coronavirus pandemic will force a delay. At the same time, all these casting announcement suggests filming could be closer than it seems. Hopefully, more plot information will be revealed when production begins; fans are eager to discover what will happen in Scream 5.
