Fans will learn if Zack Snyder's Justice League will be in the form of a film or a series at next month's DC FanDome. Opting to skip this year's San Diego Comic-Con - which is being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic - DC fans still have something to look forward to with regard to conventions as the brand is hosting its own event next month. Still happening online, the organizers promise a string of announcements, including some pertinent details about the upcoming Justice League project on HBO Max.
After more than two years of the Release the Snyder Cut movement, Snyder's original version of the 2017 film is officially getting released. The director himself announced it following a watch party for Man of Steel - his 2013 blockbuster movie that introduced Henry Cavill as Superman and kicked off the DCEU. There is still a lot of information that is still unknown about the new iteration of Justice League, however, including what format it will be in.
Snyder's pitch to Warner Bros. for his Justice League supposedly included episodes and cliffhangers. This is something he seemingly confirmed when he appeared recently at the fan-organized Justice Con. The director was asked whether the HBO Max project will come as a feature-length film or a mini-series, and rather than dish out that information now, he tells fans to look forward to DC FanDome, where this specific question will be answered.
"You will, you'll find out at FanDome. But I think I did tell Grace that it was longer than 214 [minutes now].... Either way, a hundred percent I'll be happy... Look, the truth is, regardless of how it comes out... you'll always be able to watch it [in one sitting]."
DC fans have a lot to look forward to about DC FanDome. Aside from reportedly additional movie announcements, it's safe to expect new content about their confirmed slate of movies such as Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, and The Batman. The public has not seen footage from the latter two projects, both of which are slated to release next year. Of course, Snyder fans will also have something to look forward to despite the new Justice League existing outside of the established DCEU continuity. On top of confirming the project's format when it hits HBO Max next year, there's also a form of teaser releasing at next month's DC exclusive event, as Snyder teased in his appearance at Justice-Con.
While Snyder said that he's open to whatever format his Justice League will be, there are obviously some differences between cutting it as a film and as a series - especially since he wanted to incorporate cliffhangers if it comes out in episodic form. It's also worth asking if there will be a change in runtime, and if so, how much longer will the show format will be. Initial reports suggest that the public might be looking at a four-hour movie, which he can obviously segment into four episodes. Fortunately, fans won't have to wait that long to settle this issue as Snyder promised that answers are coming at DC FanDome - among other things.
