The release of Dark Nights: Death Metal has finally arrived, bringing years of comic book series and storylines to one gigantic payoff. And fans won't need to wait to pick up their copy to see how this event begins, thanks to an official preview from DC Comics.
It's not every day that a major comic publisher releases over a third of their book free of charge, but then, Dark Nights: Death Metal isn't like every other comic event. Its predecessor, Dark Nights: Metal caused shockwaves that rippled across the DC Universe, changing the laws of Magic, Emotion, Speed, Strength, and shattered the Source Wall dividing reality from what lay beyond -- and revealed the greatest villain the DC Universe has ever known. Now, that villain's plan is about to succeed. And the Justice League? They've already lost.
That's where the sequel story from Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, and FCO Plascencia begins, judging by the official preview pages released by DC. After nominating himself as the perfect instrument of Perpetua, maker of the universe, the twisted Batman Who Laughs has seemingly remade Earth into a shadowy reflection of its former self. But while he may have named himself king , the Justice League heroes are still alive. So why aren't they fighting?
Those questions and more are likely to be answered in the rest of the first issue, or the coming story. For now, fans can sit back and enjoy an advanced look at the ruined Earth, The Batman Who Laughs' new servants, and of course, Wonder Woman's new Chainsaw of Truth. Enjoy the official preview pages below:
