Looking at the phenomenal success of projects based on the Marvel and DC universes, it is sometimes hard to believe that the superhero genre was once considered very niche. Since then, many great movies and TV shows have redefined the superhero genre with their own creative spin, whether as part of the two main universes or as an independent project.
