She was coming to the U.S. on a K-1 visa for 90 days after they met while Alan was traveling to Brazil. During episode 1 of the show, Alan, who's a Mormon, said he was on a mission. When Kirlyam opened the door, he felt like there was an angel in front of him. It was later revealed that Kirlyam was about 11 years old when Alan went to Brazil as a missionary.
