THE FLASH Director Says He Won't Replace Ezra Miller in Potential Sequel

It looks like Ezra Miller will continue playing Berry Allan in any potential sequels to The Flash that may get made. The Flash director Andy Muschietti was recently a guest on The Discourse podcast, and while on the show, he said he has no plans to recast Miller despite the actor’s recent history of legal troubles and abuse. When asked if he wants Miller to return to play The Flash, the filmmaker said:

“If [a sequel] happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”

The Flash producer Barbara Muschietti added:

“In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”

After they made the movie, though, Miller went off the rails and did some scary things. The actor is getting help now, but there was a lot of damage done to their reputation. It was initially reported that we shouldn’t expect to see Miller back to play Flash again, which makes sense due to what they’ve done. Then it was reported that Warner Bros. was open to working with Miller again, which a lot of people seemed very confused about.

Muschietti previously had this to say on Miller’s condition: “Ezra is well now. We're all hoping that they get better... They're taking the steps to recovery. They're dealing with mental health issues, but they're well. We talked to them not too long ago, and they're very committed to getting better.”

Barbara added: "And, I have to say, during our shoot, during principal photography, their commitment to the role was something we've never seen. And the discipline to the work, the willingness — physical, mental, and just wanting to go beyond the pale — is just amazing."

I will say that Miller was great in the film, but people in Hollywood have been canceled for less than the list of things that Miller did. I’m fine with second chances, but if Miller is going to be given the opportunity for a second chance, then a lot of other people should be given second chances as well, right?

In the end, it’s all up to DC Studios CEO team James Gunn and Peter Safran on if MIller comes back. Gunn ended up getting a second chance after he was canceled, and now look at where he’s at. So he might be willing to give Miller a second chance as well.

Gunn has already hyped the film by calling it “one of the greatest superhero movies” ever made, while Safran has said that Miller’s future as the Flash depends on their continued recovery.

“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery, and we are fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel like they’re ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best path forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”
