The original Ariel voice actor has revealed why casting for The Little Mermaid is so important. Disney made waves when they announced Halle Bailey would be cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1989 Disney classic The Little Mermaid, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name. The film’s director Rob Marshall has shared Bailey was the perfect choice due to her “rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence” [via D23] – a sentiment echoed by original Ariel actor Jodi Benson.
