House of the Dragon is full of references to Game of Thrones, and episode 6's wild Aegon Targaryen scene is the prequel's strangest callback to the original show yet. Adapted from George R. R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon takes place almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the Targaryen war of succession between half-siblings Rhaenyra and Aegon II. After a 10-year time jump, House of the Dragon season 1, episode 6 portrays Prince Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) as a teenager who is indifferent about his heritage. But his power-hungry mother, Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), pushes him to challenge his half-sister, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), for the Iron Throne.
