Homelander & Butcher Have Tense Meeting In The Boys Season 3 Image

With less than a week until The Boys season 3, a new image teases a tense meeting between Butcher and Homelander. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic novel of the same name, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys was created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and showrunner Eric Kripke. The series follows Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, and the eponymous vigilante group as they attempt to expose self-obsessed and abusive superheroes enabled by Vought International and The Seven, which is essentially a satirical take on DC Comics’ Justice League led by a faux Superman in Homelander. Since the premiere of its first season in 2019, The Boys has received critical and commercial acclaim for its unique and influential take on the superhero genre.

The Boys season 3 will feature returning cast members Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and Claudia Doumit. In addition to the core cast of returning players, the series will introduce fans to Jensen Ackles's parody of Captain America, Soldier Boy, Laurie Holden’s twist on the Scarlet Witch, Crimson Countess, and other members of Payback—The Boys’ version of Marvel’s Avengers. As teased in season 3’s trailers, these new Supes will remain in the orbit of a central conflict between Homelander and an (occasionally) superpowered Butcher.

The Boys’ official Twitter account recently shared an image of Butcher and Homelander having what is sure to be a tense meeting. The photo shows the pair smiling at one another while Urban’s character prepares to ominously and/or mischievously sip his tea in the season 3 premiere. Check it out below:

Homelander is the reason Butcher joined forces with the Deputy Director of the CIA, Mallory, and subsequently founded the Boys. In season 1, it’s gradually revealed that Homelander raped Butcher’s wife, Becca, prompting her to disappear after becoming pregnant. While she’s believed to have died in childbirth (along with the baby), Becca and her son, Ryan, survived and lived in secret under the protection of Vought. Butcher and Homelander reunited with the pair in season 2 with disastrous results. The season 2 finale saw Becca caught in the crossfire of Ryan’s powers as he attempted to save his mother from Homelander’s Nazi girlfriend, Stormfront. Following Queen Maeve’s blackmailing of Homelander to leave the “heroes” alone, tensions between him and Butcher are at an all-time high.

The Boys season 3's official trailer shows Maeve giving Butcher some form of Compound-V that allows the user to become a Supe for 24 hours. Naturally, Butcher receives Homelander’s abilities so that he can match the twisted Man of Steel in the moment depicted above. It remains to be seen if the other Boys decide to join Butcher on his power trip and how those powers will affect his character moving forward. Regardless, things are sure to be diabolical when The Boys season 3 premieres on June 3.
