The Family Chantel: How Pedro's Brothers Showed Him Genuine Compassion

Pedro Jimeno of The Family Chantel finally met with his brothers, who showed him genuine understanding and compassion. After difficult conversations with his mother, Lidia Jimeno, sister Nicole Jimeno, and wife Chantel Everett, the empathy and patience were a refreshing change of pace. Pedro hadn’t always prioritized reuniting with his father’s first family. However, with more peace in his life with his controversial in-laws, Pedro was ready to find the last pieces of the puzzle of his identity.

At first, Pedro ventured to the Dominican Republic alone. While he appreciated Chantel’s support, he wanted to address the topic privately with his mother and sister. The conversations with Lidia and Nicole were challenging to say the least. Both women were confused as to why Pedro would want to connect with his father. They also mocked him for getting angry about the history of affairs in their family. Pedro is often the peacemaker on both sides of his family but rarely receives empathy in return.

The dynamic he established with his brothers was so different from anything he’d experienced before. Junior and Jonathan joined Pedro at a cafe, where they all drank coffee and talked. The men seemed happy and excited to meet Pedro. At first, it was awkward to unpack the brothers’ shared history of lying and affairs. However, after all the men told their sides of the story, there was also a sense of relief. Junior then revealed that he found out about Pedro, Nicole, and his mother through a letter that Lidia sent.

This revelation was a relief for Pedro, who felt that Lidia had no feelings about the absence of Pedro’s father in their lives. While Pedro Senior has ripped up the letter, a curious young Junior put the pieces together and showed his mother. Junior said, “it seems like she tried several times to contact him.” He stated in his interview, “I’m freaking happy. You don’t imagine how I feel. Is like a movie.” Pedro was finally getting the answers that his mother mostly kept hidden. Lidia never told the full story, and Junior was open and honest and seemed to trust Pedro.

Looking back, it seems like Lidia feels a great deal of shame regarding the birth of her children and the abandonment by Pedro’s father. Her seeming unconcerned attitude about past events seems to be a defense mechanism, which allows her to protect herself and avoid the generational hurt she’s endured. Pedro's going to need more love and support. For Lidia, Pedro, Nicole, Junior, and Jonathan to find healing, more will be required than the transparency, and gratitude Pedro’s half-brothers brought to the table. The Family Chantel season 4 could open up a whole new branch of the family, and help Pedro find himself in ways he never expected.
