New Warner Bros. Fighting Game Leak Indicates Smash Bros. Style Damage

In the latest leak regarding the rumored Warner Bros. fighter Multiversus, a source claims that the game will feature Super Smash Bros.-style damage. This leak follows several other bits of leaked info, including some recent intel claiming that characters like Shaggy and Batman will be playable.

Although it has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros., gaming fans have been following news about Multiversus closely over the past few months. The concept of a Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game featuring Warner Bros. properties is tantalizing to many gamers, as the media giant owns the rights to so many iconic franchises, including Game of ThronesHarry PotterLooney Tunes, and The Lord of the Rings. This style of fighting game has also proven to be viable for companies outside of Nintendo, as Nickelodeon proved earlier this year with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Rumors of Multiversus, while scant, have been supported by news coming from known industry insiders like Jeff Grubb.

A user going by the handle Sponge on the gaming discussion forum Reset Era expanded on some earlier leaks while providing new information regarding how damage would be dealt in Multiversus. Sponge posted a list of leaked info touching on character movesets and alternate costumes, adding that damage will be "%-based like Smash, if that wasn't already obvious". This would mean that, rather than characters taking hit points like in traditional fighters such as Mortal Kombat, players will have their percentage tick up with each hit, ultimately culminating in the losing player getting knocked off the stage.

Super Smash Bros. is a very mechanically complex game, and many expect its imitations to follow suit. If Multiversus does indeed feature percentage-based damage like in Super Smash Bros., that could bode well for how the game copies the arena fighter formula. After all, Nickelodeon's recent outing carried over many of the mechanics of the Nintendo series, even adding features like Dash Dancing to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl post-launch, which pleased fans.

It's important to reiterate that none of this news has been confirmed, and the development of Multiversus could turn out to be nothing more than a rumor. However, it seems unlikely that Warner Bros. would want to miss out on such a marketable and profitable opportunity, especially considering the company's willingness to cross over its properties in films like Space Jam: A New Legacy. Until official information is released by Warner Bros., fighting game fans will have to continue to test their mettle with games like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Super Smash Bros.
