Another piece of WandaVision concept art shows the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) ready to fight with her family by her side. WandaVision was Marvel Studios' first streaming show to premiere on Disney+, and ended up being an unexpected hit with MCU fans and critics. WandaVision has garnered 23 Emmy nominations, a first for an MCU series. At the heart of WandaVision was Wanda Maximoff's love for Vision (Paul Bettany) and the aftermath of her grief over his death in Avengers: Infinity War. Wanda's sorrow and her Chaos magic proved to be a powerful, yet dangerous mix.
Without initially realizing what she was doing, Wanda created a hex in the real town of Westview, New Jersey. Wanda's hex not only allowed her to bring back Vision in a fantasy sitcom-city, but she was also able to give birth to twin boys, Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne.) Wanda's fantasy was eventually shattered thanks to Vision himself and Wanda's fellow witch, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn). As Wanda finally realizes she has to destroy the hex that enables her fantasy, she battles Agatha and the military in episode 9, "The Series Finale." Vision and the twins do aid Wanda initially during the multi-pronged fight, with Vision fighting White Vision and the twins taking on the military, but once Wanda assumed her full power as the Scarlet Witch, the battle was over
Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park has shared another keyframe he illustrated for WandaVision. The newest piece of concept art shows Wanda as the Scarlet Witch with her family by her side. The Maximoff family all appear ready to fight, and Wanda's hands are glowing with her red Chaos magic. Check out Park's excellent illustration below:
Although it definitely would've been great to see Park's concept art translated to the show, it makes sense why the Scarlet Witch never fought alongside her family. Of course, "The Series Finale," featured a scene where the Maximoff family did get ready to fight together, but it was before Wanda became the Scarlet Witch. It made sense for the series not to include the Maximoff family fighting side by side with the Scarlet Witch. She is so powerful in her final form, fighting any further would have been completely unnecessary.
Sadly, while the Scarlet Witch wins the fight against Agatha easily, Wanda sadly again loses what means the most to her. Although Wanda herself made the decision to destroy the Westview hex, it was still sad watching her have to say goodbye to Vision once again and let go of Billy and Tommy. The Scarlet Witch may be more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme, but Wanda's dream of a happy life evaded her once more.
It's no surprise that WandaVision has been nominated for 23 Emmy awards. The series finally allowed Wanda to work through her grief and trauma, and it was truly phenomenal watching her transform into the Scarlet Witch. The Scarlet Witch's story will continue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where hopefully she might get a chance to see her family once more. Anything's possible in the MCU.
