Stranger Things season 4 is coming soon, according to one of the series' producers. Stranger Things is a supernatural thriller that follows four friends, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo). The group of misfits already struggle with life in middle school in the '80s, but find them faced with a new set of problems as the characters they know from their tabletop games come to life and attack their hometown of Hawkins. They take on taking these creatures down with the help of telekinetic Eleven.
Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are currently available for streaming on Netflix. Stranger Things season 1 came to Netflix on July 15, 2016. Season 2 followed the inaugural season up on the festive date of October 31, 2017. Season 3 was also released on a holiday on July 4, 2019. However, viewers are still waiting on season 4. Not only has the 4th installment of the series not dropped after two years, but fans don't know when they can expect it to, as the release date has not been revealed. Filming for season 4 was initially intended to take place from January 2020 to August 2020, with a projected release for April 2021. However, the coronavirus pandemic postponed season 4 indefinitely.
Variety confirms that Stranger Things season 4 is set to launch on Netflix soon. Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy confessed that it has been way too long since they've updated viewers. Fortunately, he reassured fans that he and the rest of the crew have been working on filming for season 4 for the past three months and that it's almost ready to be released. He confirmed that the biggest reason for the delay is the coronavirus pandemic. Production had begun in Lithuania just before the pandemic caused filming to halt. Once production resumed, he expressed that the crew had to reduce production speed in order to ensure safety. As for when season 4 will be released, Levy teased fans that they'll find out very soon.
“It’s coming soon enough. And as for when exactly that will be announced — quite soon.”
Levy also added that while COVID-19 was the primary cause for the delay, Stranger Things season 4 went "much bigger" in regards to setting, causing the need to film in various locations. He described season 4 as more "visually and narratively very ambitious" compared to the previous three seasons. Viewers have plenty to look forward to based on Levy's commentary and the promotional materials released for season 4 thus far. McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, has teased that the storylines for Stranger Things season 4 are "insane." This is likely due to the series expanding its lens from Hawkins to various locations across the world, as Levy has shared.
All in all, it seems like Stranger Things season 4 will be worth the two-year wait. As for when that release date will be, it's hard to say. If filming wrapped within the last three months as Levy stated, post-production will take about eight months, leaving the release date to be between January 2022 and April 2022. Additionally, if Stranger Things follows a past pattern, viewers can expect season 4 to be released on a holiday like Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day.
