iCarly Reboot Season 2 Could Feature Nevel's Return, Says Reed Alexander

iCarly actor Reed Alexander spoke about reprising his role as villain Nevel Papperman on the series Paramount+ revival and teased that it might not be the last fans will see of his scheming character. iCarly tells the story of a brother and sister, Carly and Spencer Shay, who live in a building in Seattle, Washington where nine years earlier, they helped propel a web show named iCarly to the tops of their genre in the fledgling internet age. Carly (Miranda Cosgrove), Sam (Jennette McCurdy), Freddie (Nathan Kress), welcomed a who's who of stars, many of whom would go on to become significant figures in the fields of movies, television, and music.

Alexander played Nevel Papperman, a character who was initially brought onto the series as a potential object for Carly's affections. Nevel was most notable for his successful review website, Nevelocity.com, which had millions of hits from Internet users across the globe. A few students at Carly's school claimed a web series was not cool if it didn't receive a good review from his site. Furious at Carly's rejection Nevel swore revenge on Carly and her website and gave it a horrible review. He was later forced by his mother to give iCarly a good review. Nevel would return to the show periodically as a foil for the group throughout iCarly's six-season run.

Alexander spoke to Insider about the evolution of the character since his first iCarly appearance. On the topic of coming back for a possible season 2, Alexander said it could happen because, "Nevel will continue to be scheming and plotting." Check out the rest of his comments below:

"My sense of him is that he always has a really tough time letting go of a grudge. I mean, look how he could not let go of the fact that he and Carly had that original falling out. This all started from an episode in 2007. It's 2021 and Nevel's still trying to get revenge. So, that tells you everything you need to know about his disposition."

In the reboot, Carly attended the robot-themed wedding of Nevel and his supposed fiancée, Prunella Pitz (Bailey Stender). Her hesitancy to attend rang true after Carly realized that the wedding was fake and that Nevel had staged the event because he hoped that Carly would fall in love with him again. The twist to the new episode is that Prunella ended up falling in love with him and the two ended up marrying.

For fans of the series, who have been treated to several iconic character returns since iCarly dropped on Paramount+ June 17, Nevel's return has been hotly anticipated and allowed the series to continue to move forward with fresh storytelling as the main characters encounter their childhood foes as adults. The beauty of this revival is its ability to continue to move forward in storytelling while continuing to use past themes from the original iCarly and as a way to advance the characters without allowing them to slip back into their old, teenaged personas.
