10 Funniest Dexter Morgan Scenes | ScreenRant

It might not seem as if Dexter is a series that leaves room for much comedy, but the truth is it can be quite the opposite. Although Dexter is a serial killer who targets other murderers, his lack of empathy and understanding of the human condition leaves him clueless over how he should behave in social situations.

This led to plenty of hilarious moments where Dexter’s sarcastic nature — usually through the monologues in his head — came out and he would make funny comments. Other times, Dexter’s general mannerisms would be the source for comedy, as his attempt to blend in made him out to be a humorous character in his own right.

10 Dexter Sarcastically Considering Killing Ellen Wolf

In Season 3, Dexter’s friendship with Miguel grew enough for the latter to summon him in his face-off against Defense Attorney Ellen Wolf. Despite acknowledging that evidence was against her client, Wolf openly told Dexter she planned on discrediting him in front of a jury by proving he planted the evidence.

Annoyed by her admittance to using such lowly tactics, Dexter instantly had an inner monologue where he considered “Do I see plastic sheets in your future?” Dexter knew she didn’t fit his code but that didn’t stop his snarky attitude from rising up as he contemplated how easy it would be to just kill her off.

9 His Attempt At "La Pasion"

It was a constant work in progress for Dexter grow from the man he was at the beginning of the series. Having no clue how to deal with emotions, he made the mistake of asking Angel Batista how to satisfy Rita emotionally, only for the latter to tell him to rely on physical intimacy that he termed “La Pasion.”

The scene later cut to Dexter watching a romantic comedy with Rita, which he considered to be equivalent to torture. Dexter then foolishly attempted “La Pasion,” which shocked Rita enough to turn him down and confused Dexter all over again.

8 Getting On Doakes' Nerves By Asking Silly Questions

It’s a shame that Doakes was killed off as he had a lot more to offer, especially because of his chemistry with Dexter. In their first scene together, Doakes was in no mood for Dexter’s jokes, being the only one to see through Dexter’s attempts at acting normal.

However, Dexter managed to get under his skin as, when Doakes sarcastically told him he was talking to Dexter about a case and not to invite him to his nephew’s bris, Dexter responded by feigning interest and asking if Doakes was Jewish. To this, Doakes instantly told Dexter to shut up, which completed the hilarious back-and-forth of ridiculous questions.

7 His Terrible Excuse That He Was Looking For Furniture Rather Than His Sister

By the end of Season 1, Debra was taken by the Ice Truck killer and Dexter realized that the former was mimicking Dexter’s childhood trauma. However, he was wrong about Debra being held in a container as Dexter had once been. Just then, Doakes announced his presence by shouting “surprise!”

Even funnier was Dexter’s awful attempts to cover up his investigations, which only angered Doakes further. Dexter then came up with the cheapest lie ever by claiming he was at the container because he had order furniture from Thailand and was waiting for it to arrive, prompting Doakes to punch Dexter for insulting his intelligence.

6 His Failure To Understand "Hammer Time"

In many ways, Dexter can be considered a sympathetic figure since he genuinely didn’t know how to interact with people but tried his best. In the Season 6 premiere, he attended his school reunion and found out he was now considered cool by his peers.

Hoping to blend in to move in on his intended target, Dexter engaged in a “hammer time” dance that was absolutely ridiculous. Having no clue how to dance, he resorted to bobbing up and down without moving his shoulders, only for this awful act to become a hit as his classmates ate it up.

5 His Over-The-Top Fantasies Of Telling Debra His True Nature

When evidence began mounting against the Bay Harbor Butcher in the second season, Dexter decided he should tell Debra that he was the killer. Staying true to Dexter’s comedic fantasies, the scene then showed multiple versions of Debra’s possible responses.

These ranged in bizarre ways as Dexter imagined things like Debra choking on her food after hearing the truth, breaking down in tears hysterically, and even shooting Dexter in the head. After running through all these over-the-top possibilities, Dexter realized he really didn’t know how normal people thought.

4 Dexter's Imitation Of His Victim's Cursing

In Season 7, Dexter tracked down the Minotaur Killer and managed to apprehend him after learning his true identity to be Ray Speltzer. He took Speltzer to a crematory and bound him to a table, to which Dexter’s victim could do nothing but curse loudly.

Feeling silly himself, Dexter began acting like a goof and cursed up a storm, running around the place in circles and repeating Speltzer’s curses before yelling in his face. This freaked Speltzer out, who was left dumbstruck as Dexter laughed at him.

3 Dexter Asking Rita's Neighbour If Her Dog Talks To Her

Meek and non-confrontational, Rita made Dexter ask her neighbor to silence her loud dog, Walter, that was bothering everyone. Dexter attempted a friendly approach with the woman, who turned out to be rude and condescending.

Upon being told by the neighbor that “Walter is an outside dog,” Dexter joked that taking Walter in the house would make him an inside dog. When the neighbor claimed Walter didn’t like being inside, Dexter taunted her by asking if Walter had been the one to tell her that, which stumped the woman completely.

2 One-Upping Doakes During Their Banter

All things considered, it was a wrong decision on Doakes’ part to pursue Dexter as the latter was always one step ahead. Having had enough with acting silly, Dexter confronted Doakes head-on in his office, telling Doakes that no matter what he did, Dexter would always “own” him.

The funny part about this exchange wasn’t just how Dexter threatened Doakes in such a jovial manner, but the headbutt that followed as Dexter hit Doakes, whose sound effect was similar to something heard on Looney Tunes as Doakes collapsed the floor in equally cartoonish fashion.

1 His Fantasy Of Revealing His True Nature To The Police

With the possibility of being caught constantly on his mind, Dexter had a fantasy where he imagined dragging a body right in the middle of the police department with all his coworkers only showing minor annoyance. Funnier still, none of them really cared about the body as much as the mess Dexter made.

The icing on the cake, however, has to be the arrival of Batista carrying a severed foot, which he claimed Dexter dropped and casually told Dexter that he “can’t leave stuff like this lying around, bro.” The scene is a classic example of Dexter’s dry humor while conveying the inner conflict of the titular character.
