Artist Xander Smith shares Godzilla vs. Kong concept art revealing the crab-like creatures that live in Hollow Earth. The latest installment in the Godzilla franchise takes viewers deep into the center of the earth, showing an environment that houses a collection of prehistoric beasts. The film, which was directed by Adam Wingard, is the first of the MonsterVerse to explore the Hollow Earth concept in such detail.
Godzilla vs. Kong is perhaps the most notable MonsterVerse movie for a few different reasons. Of course, it serves as the culmination of previous events, pitting the two alpha Titans against each other in a three-round slugfest. Besides that, viewers also get to see Hollow Earth up close. Toward the latter part of the film, the heroes at Monarch follow Kong as he burrows to the otherworldly Hollow Earth, intending to find his home. The team, led by Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård) and Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall), is greeted by many different creatures, including a deadly species known as the Warbats. These beasts only scratch the surface, it seems, as Godzilla vs. Kong writer Max Borenstein teases more Titans sleeping in the Hollow Earth.
One Hollow Earth creature featured scurrying around in Godzilla vs. Kong appears to be a crab-like arachnid. Artist Xander Smith Design created concept art inspired by the monster, which he shared on Instagram. A swarm of them appears once Kong arrives in Hollow Earth. Unfortunately, one of the buggers gets chomped by a large lizard-like beast. Check out the concept art below:
With how detailed the creature is from the picture, it's a shame audiences didn't see more of the species in the film. That said, the monster isn't the only one who has received the Godzilla vs. Kong concept art treatment; take a look at these detailed specs for Mechagodzilla. At this point, it seems that the future of the MonsterVerse is up in the air, especially after the critical reception and disappointing box office of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. But, Godzilla vs. Kong has reversed any gloom with a sense of optimism. #ContinueTheMonsterVerse was a trending hashtag recently, showing the passion surrounding the genre, with support voiced by Kong: Skull Island's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Now that Hollow Earth is fully established, the potential for future stories in this realm is strong. With fan demand for more Titans stories from their homeworld, it would be a no-brainer for more MonsterVerse movies to explore the legend and mythology of this unique place.
