It Was Wanda All Along: 10 Hints That Prove Scarlet Witch Is The Next MCU Big Bad

The MCU's WandaVision shocked fans in episode seven when it revealed that the nosy neighborAgnes was in fact Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch from Marvel Comics. She was apparently behind the events of the show all along. But the streaming series may be setting up an even bigger villain, one who has been in plain sight all along: Wanda Maximoff.

There have been hints in the series that Wanda is the real villain of the show. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, as the saying goes, and Wanda's powers have grown exponentially in the series. They seem to have grown far beyond her morality, at least so far.

10 She Retcons Her Own Actions

At the end of episode five, right before the shocking arrival of Evan Peters, the Fox X-Men Quicksilver, Wanda and Vision have a huge fight. He knows she is lying to him about what's going on in Westview. She says she doesn't know how any of it started, but that isn't true.

Wanda created the Hex and is actively retconning the past in a way that goes beyond simply lying about her actions. Wanda is altering reality in a way that suggests her power may actually be revising key events in her life. The most obvious is how she willed Vision back into existence.

9 She Manipulates Vision

Her resurrection of Vision is extraordinary, and a sign of the deep love the two share. But she hasn't treated Vision very well. Not only does she openly lie to him about their circumstances and his true nature, but she also 'edits' him. For example, Wanda rewinds time when SWORD's efforts intrude on her fantasy.

She continues to lie to him after he becomes suspicious of the strange behavior of others in Westview, and casually dismisses her increasingly lax hold on their false reality. She loves him, but she's lying to him, which is a sign on some level that she doesn't respect him.

8 She's Willing To Let People Die

At the end of episode four of the series, Monica Rambeau says "It's all Wanda." She seems to have been more right than she knows. Wanda is the source behind the Hex in Westview, and the lengths she'll go to protect her fantasy are extraordinary. In the first episode of the series, Wanda seems paralyzed when Vision's boss starts to choke at the dinner table.

In retrospect, it appears Wanda is conflicted over whether to let him die or sacrifice the fantasy on some level. She eventually does, but it shows that she might not always be so considerate.

7 She's Willing To Kill People

Wanda proves she is fully aware of what she is doing when she confronts the SWORD agents massing outside of the Hex. She drags their drone back to them and uses her power to turn all of the agents' guns on Director Hayward. Wanda has shown in the series that she'll protect her peace at any cost, and next time she may pull the trigger.

Director Hayward may be one of the smartest characters in WandaVision, but he's playing with fire by antagonizing the woman with supernatural reality-altering powers. Wanda may be pushed to the brink to defend her family, resulting in unintended or perhaps intended consequences.

6 She Can Reverse Time

The Scarlet Witch has many extraordinary powers fans may be unaware of. One of the most fascinating - and troubling - is her ability to rewind time in the Hex. She does this in episode two, rewinding the 'scene' when the beekeeper appears. She also edits a moment between her and Vision in episode three that shows she'll go to great lengths to avoid certain topics.

Wanda can extend the Hex, and she might be able to do it again. If she does, she could extend her power through the world, and even space and time, making her virtually unstoppable.

5 She Attacked Monica Rambeau - Twice

Monica Rambeau has been determined to help Wanda since the beginning. Wanda isn't having any of it and she's attacked Monica twice in the series. Other people Wanda edits or assigns roles in her fantasy, but Monica hits a nerve like few others. This shows on some level Wanda can be capable of a lot of anger.

Monica Rambeau is one of the most powerful superheroes in Marvel Comics. Her journey in WandaVision shows she's going to be very powerful in the MCU as well. She's not on the level of Wanda yet, though.

4 She Struggles To Move On

Wanda is suffering from a great deal of grief and trauma. Anyone would struggle to move on, but her powers make her ordeal much more complicated. She has amazing power, which she has now used to avoid her pain.

A healthy progression for her would be to acknowledge and accept her losses on some level, but Wanda is clearly not prepared to do that and she has been antagonistic towards those who even suggest it. Her power may blind her to any possibility of life beyond Westview.

3 She Doesn't Know Her Full Power

Worse still, Wanda is not fully aware of her own true potential. Agatha Harkness made that plain as she revealed to Wanda and the audience that Wanda is the 'Scarlet Witch,' a being of immense power. It's very possible that Wanda is a Nexus Being, connected to the multiverse in the comics.

If that is the case, then Wanda's powers are nearly cosmic. She has been shown to be able to alter matter, reality, and time. In the House Of M storyline, she erases the majority of mutants in existence with three simple words: 'No more mutants.'

2 She Doesn't Consider The Consequences

Wanda knows what she is doing, but she doesn't seem to consider the consequences. Many of Westview's residents have been left in a catatonic state by her actions, and it's nothing she appears to have acknowledged. Wanda felt a great deal of guilt over the deaths of people in Lagos in Captain America: Civil War, deaths that resulted from her trying to save people from a bomb.

But she didn't properly consider her actions at the moment, leading to the tragedy and a series of events that would lead her to Westview.

1 She Ripped Ultron's Heart Out

Wanda's capacity for anger may have been best demonstrated in her earliest appearance in the MCU. In Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Wanda takes the fight directly to Ultron. She rips the android's vibranium heart out, for the death of her brother, Pietro.

Ultron survived that (for a moment at least), and may even return in the MCU, but it displayed something inherent in Wanda's character. She lashes out against those who have hurt her, and with her power, she may no longer make distinctions between supervillains or the ordinary citizens of suburban towns.
