Every Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Character, Ranked | ScreenRant

The Super Smash Bros. series is often called the biggest culmination of gaming, and for good reason. Even though the game is made by Nintendo, its popularity has increased tenfold due to the range of different characters now included, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Pikachu, and Mega Man. In the latest game of the series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the biggest roster in the series, with over 75 characters in the game.

Of those characters, many of them have been added to the game as DLC. All of these characters have a different range of skills and abilities. Naturally, this means that some would be stronger than others in terms of gameplay and viability.

9 Piranha Plant

The Piranha Plant from the Super Mario series was the first DLC character revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and has not been popular with players. As players know, it does have several useful moves, including its neutral special, Ptooie. Although it has a slow start-up, it can be used as a projectile to keep airborne opponents at bay.

However, the reason not many players choose the Piranha Plant is its attacks and mobility are slower than most of the other characters. Additionally, the Piranha Plant has a tall hitbox, which makes it easier for other characters to perform combos against it.

8 Banjo & Kazooie

Banjo & Kazooie were some of the most requested characters to be included in the game, and now they are finally here. While they may not be the strongest of the DLC characters, they do have some powerful moves. For example, the Wonderwing move has invulnerability and can reach long distances, while also being a useful edge-guarding tool.

Like the Piranha Plant, Banjo & Kazooie are heavier in terms of weight, which takes away from their speed. Additionally, compared to other characters, their damage output isn't the best. Even if they aren't the strongest, it's nice to have finally Banjo & Kazooie in the game.

7 Byleth

After Byleth first appeared in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, it didn't take long for both the male and female versions to be welcomed into Smash. Like the previous characters listed, Byleth has moves that are slower than most but are also stronger. One instance of this is Byleth's Aymr ax, which can be used in down-inputted moves.

While Byleth's attacks are on the slower side, the damage output on most of them is significant, which can be a worthwhile trade for some. However, if players aren't willing to trade speed for strength, they may want to look towards other characters to play.

6 Hero

There aren't too many things for players to complain about when using Hero. Although the moves where he casts spells can only be done a limited amount of times, they are so powerful that their strength makes up for it. In fact, one of Hero's strongest abilities is his Command Selection.

The Command Selection is a move that allows Hero to casts spells, giving him options to multiple unique skills. These include healing himself, reflecting projectiles, and more. While there are 21 possible moves, the player will only be able to select from 4 at a time. All in all, Hero's spells give him an advantage over several other characters.

5 Terry

Terry's quick speed on the ground, as well as his unique abilities, make him one of the stronger DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Due to his mobility, he's able to rush opponents to bait their attacks. Once they are baited, he can quickly get out of the situation and punish the opponent with an attack of his own.

One move that's effective for punishing opponents is the Power Dunk. The move is invincible when the player starts it and can be canceled into several of his other moves. Terry's strong punishing game makes him a formidable character to fight against.

4 Sephiroth

As the second fighter from the Final Fantasy series, Sephiroth has significant speed and range, given his signature long blade, Masamune. With this range, he's able to attack enemies from far away or he can even attack enemies from close up if players choose to do so.

Not only is Sephiroth powerful on the ground, but he has numerous options in the air, too. When Sephiroth takes enough damage, he can jump a third time in the air. This boost also grants him more power and speed than he already has. Being one of the most iconic villains in the Final Fantasy series, Sephiroth's character was well executed in Smash.

3 Steve

Being one of the most popular games in the world, it was only a matter of time before Minecraft was introduced into the Super Smash Bros. series. The makers of Smash took their time when integrating the game, as Steve has some of the most unique abilities of any character.

Steve can mine materials from the stage to craft weapons and blocks, and the materials Steve mines depend on where he is on the stage. This gives him the option to make stronger weapons and to even block opponents out of the stage from making their way back. Combined with his other abilities, Steve is a master at controlling space and dealing damage.

2 Min Min

Although Min Min's speed is a lot slower compared to the other characters, she makes up for it with her strong range and use of her ARMS. Min Min can switch between three arms, which have individual powers, such as longer range and higher damage.

The long-range of Min Min's ARMS is also a double-edged sword. It can be useful for attacking enemies from a distance, but if Min Min misses, she's also vulnerable to be attacked herself. With Min Min's ARMS directly in front of the opponents, they are free to attack them and damage her. There are risks involved when playing Min Min, but there are also great rewards if she succeeds.

1 Joker

Joker from Persona 5 is not only the strongest DLC character but one of the strongest characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. For example, Joker is very quick, allowing him to move swiftly and his attacks to come out faster. Not only does this make him dangerous up close, but he can also deal damage far away with his gun.

Although Joker is very fast, his individual attacks don't do much damage on their own. This means he often has to rely on multiple-hitting combos to deal significant damage. Even so, with Joker's remarkable speed, players should still be able to pull Joker's combos off fairly easily.
