Twilight: New Year's Resolutions The Main Characters Should Make

As New Year’s Eve is rapidly approaching, many of us are thinking of our resolutions for 2021. While often resolutions are abandoned soon into the new year, it’s still helpful to come up with ways for self-improvement. It’s also fun to think about our favorite fictional characters and the goals they should really be asking for themselves.

The characters from Twilight could make some resolutions of their own to be better and happier. Of course, this doesn’t mean these are resolutions they would actually ever make, but they definitely should.

10 Mike Newton: Get a hobby

While Edward and Jacob can definitely be annoying, the boys that Bella went to high school with were often worse. Mike Newton was interested in Bella right away, and he never quite picked up on the fact that she wasn’t into him.

He seemed way too focused on girls and dating, and he probably would have been better off if he had found a hobby or extracurricular activity to do instead.

9 Jasper Hale: Control your impulses

Jasper’s special vampire power was to be able to influence the emotions of others around them. He could help soothe people when they were upset for example.

However, given his background, he had lived as a vampire who ate people for years. As such, he had a hard time controlling his impulses compared to the rest of the Cullens. So, this was something he needed to keep focusing on.

8 Charlie Swan: Ask more questions

Charlie Swan is a good parent overall, and he clearly cares about Bella and later about his granddaughter, Renesmee. In one way, it’s a good thing that he’s willing to not ask questions and just accept that he can’t really understand what’s going on with Bella.

On the other hand, the fact that he’s so willing to just ignore signs around him and not question things too much is kind of weird.

7 Emmett Cullen: Beat Bella at arm wrestling

Emmett Cullen is a rather simple character. He’s fun, outgoing, and mostly just wants to have a good time, and this is part of what makes him so great. He probably wouldn’t have many goals he wants to meet, but there is one he cares about.

Given that Bella is a newborn, she’s extremely strong and was able to beat Emmett in an arm wrestle, and he would definitely want to beat her in a re-match.

6 Rosalie Hale: To make one friend

Rosalie can be somewhat misunderstood, and she definitely had a very difficult and traumatic past. Her background illustrates why she is so withdrawn and judgemental, but she would probably be happier if she would learn to let more people in.

While she does care about her family, it wouldn’t hurt if she would be more open and make a friend or two here and there.

5 Leah Clearwater: Start her own pack

Leah Clearwater really gets the short end of the stick in her life. First, she loses Sam who she loves to Emily after Sam imprints on Emily. Then, she turns into a werewolf and has to be a member of Sam’s pack where they can all read her thoughts. She’s also the only woman in the pack.

Instead of putting up with Jacob, she should just find her own empowerment and start her own pack or leave them all for good.

4 Alice Cullen: Stop planning parties

Alice Cullen is one of the best characters from Twilight and fans love her. She’s eccentric, adorable, and sociable, and she’s a good friend to Bella. However, her attempts at planning parties don’t always go according to plan.

The worst example of this is when Bella gets a papercut and is then attacked by Jasper. But, even outside of this situation, Alice tends to plan events just way too over the top.

3 Jacob Black: To learn to respect the word “no”

The debate on whether Jacob or Edward was better for Bella is still being had by fans of the series, and these two both had some major flaws.

One of the most disturbing things Jacob did was when he forced Bella to kiss him. It’s hard to forgive him for this, and he clearly needs to learn to respect consent and not be entitled to a woman just because he likes them.

2 Edward Cullen: To quit being controlling in the name of “love”

While Edward did at least understand consent, he also did some very troubling and borderline abusive things to Bella. He could be really controlling and did things like stalk Bella and ruin her truck so she couldn’t go visit Jacob.

This isn’t loving, and it gets much farther than just being protective. He definitely shouldn’t have done these things.

1 Bella Swan: To be more independent

Bella spends most of the series is really wrapped up in the men around her. Her identity is really wrapped up in Edward and then also in Jacob. She needed to learn to have a bit more balance in her life.

While she was loyal and very invested, she could have committed to being more independent and making her own decisions.
