The Goldbergs: 10 Best Episodes, Ranked (According To IMDb)

The Goldbergs recently started their eighth season, with more episodes featuring the Goldberg family's adventures taking place throughout the 1980s. Each Goldberg has a personality all their own, and though they may clash with one another, they always come together as a family at the end of the day.

Their bond is strong, with Beverly's relationships with her kids often inappropriate, but always filled with love. Whether the characters were emulating Ferris Bueller's Day Off or The Goonies, or having adventures of their own, there are plenty of great episodes, some more entertaining than others.

10 "Have A Summer" (8.3)

In the Season 3 finale, Beverly struggles with the reality of Adam going into high school. Adam and his friends are more concerned with the fact that the high schoolers will be showing up to haze the incoming freshmen, but when the high schoolers show up, Adam fends off Barry, and he finds himself looking awesome while Barry looks like the fool.

Luckily, with Adam's help, Barry is able to restore his reputation by pulling an epic prank on the eighth graders. Erica learns a hard lesson when she realizes she returns Geoff's feelings too late, as he has already moved on.

9 "You Opened The Door" (8.3)

Beverly goes a bit overboard when she finds out about Dana asking Adam to save a dance for her at the upcoming school dance and asks Murray to give Adam the "birds and the bees" talk. While making this request, she finds out that their eldest son, Barry, never had that particular conversation with Murray, and she demands that Murray talk with Barry. Meanwhile, Adam goes around to different members of his family for help in learning how to dance, and ends up relying on his mother as a teacher.

Though, Adam is horrified when Beverly signs up to be a chaperone at the dance; however, he later comes to find that having his mother there may not be so bad after all.

8 "DannyDonnieJoeJonJordan" (8.3)

Murray is fed up with the state of the garage after several boxes fall onto the car when he's trying to park and demands that it be cleaned out. While looking through the boxes, Erica teases Adam and Barry but ends up on the spot herself for having kept New Kids on the Block memorabilia, which she struggles to let go of.

Furthermore, Adam and Barry use her love for the boy band as a weapon to humiliate her, though Adam and Barry soon become fans themselves. Beverly plays dirty when she pays to have her kids' things stored elsewhere, with Murray feeling guilty and trying to make it up to his wife, as he believes they're lost forever.

7 "Cowboy Country" (8.4)

Lainey officially calls Barry her boyfriend and wants her dad to meet Barry's father. The meeting doesn't go so well, however, when Murray discovers that Lainey's dad is a Dallas Cowboys fan.

In the meantime, Adam is frustrated about being a "late bloomer" and goes to extremes to impress Dana, including giving her a ring and climbing a water tower, with both instances ending badly. Yet, Dana reassures Adam that he doesn't have anything to worry about.

6 "Goldbergs Never Say Die!" (8.4)

Adam's latest movie obsession is The Goonieswhich annoys his siblings to no end. To get back at Adam, Erica and Barry decide to make a fake treasure map and hide it in the attic. Excited when he finds it, Adam recruits his friends and siblings to aid him in hunting down the treasure, Goonies style.

Unfortunately, the treasure hunt is cut short when Adam realizes his siblings have played a joke on him, and he declares that he doesn't have a brother or sister anymore. Meanwhile, Beverly is concerned about her father's finances and declares that if she can't find her mother's jewelry, she'll take over his finances. Pops gives Adam a real mystery to solve when he recruits him to find his late wife's jewelry before Beverly realizes the truth, and Adam's friends and siblings join in to help.

5 "Love Is A Mix Tape" (8.4)

In the second season premiere, Adam wants to make a mixtape for Dana, who he hasn't seen all summer. He puts in plenty of hard work, only for his mom to find it and mistakenly think it was made for her. In a jam, Adam doesn't know how to tell her who the mixtape was really meant for, for fear of hurting her feelings.

Though, of course, the truth comes out sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, Barry threatens to reveal that Erica has a fake ID unless she helps him acquire one as well. Unfortunately, Barry begins showing his new ID to everyone at school, landing him in trouble.

4 "The Darryl Dawkins Dance" (8.5)

Erica is horrified by Barry's and Lainey's attraction to each other and resolves to make sure they don't end up together. She enlists Beverly's help in finding another girl for Barry to attend the upcoming Sadie Hawkins dance with. Though, both Lainey and Barry ditch their dates to be with each other, and their former dates end up with one another, with everything working out like it was meant to.

Meanwhile, Adam is traumatized by the death of Optimus Prime in The Transformers: The Movie, and after a brief but disconcerting talk with Murray about death, Adam begins to fear for his grandfather's health.

3 "Livin' On A Prayer" (8.7)

In the Season 1 finale, Beverly and Murray head out of town to Murray's old high school, but he's embarrassed when he misses a shot on the basketball court.  Murray, as a result, takes out his frustration on his wife. Elsewhere, Barry throws a party to impress his crush, and the bash turns into a sweater party featuring the guests wearing Beverly's sweaters.

When his parents return early, Murray sympathizes with Barry and lets him have his moment, allowing the party to go on for an extra ten minutes. Barry uses the time to dance in front of everyone to Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." While he did end up grounded for the summer, he had an unforgettable night that made his grounding worth it.

2 "Dinner With The Goldbergs" (8.7)

Geoff kindly takes Erica out for her birthday dinner and surprises her by having invited the rest of her family to join them. Erica immediately fears the worst, knowing her family's habits, and convinces Geoff that chaos will ensue. Beverly complains about tables and echoes, Barry complains about his seating, Murray lays down his menu rules, Adam resents ordering off the kid's menu, and more ensues, turning a simple dinner into a big deal.

Geoff quickly sees that dinner is no picnic with the Goldbergs and stands up to them, impressing Erica, and officially making him one of their own.

1 "Barry Goldberg's Day Off" (9.0)

Barry fakes being sick, just like Ferris Bueller himself, but his day off consists of several misadventures compared to the beloved movie character. He takes on the day alongside Adam and Pops; Barry messes up majorly with Lainey when he tries to get her out of school, and Pops' car is stolen.

Meanwhile, a frustrated Erica is upset that Adam and Barry are getting sympathy and not her. She ends up at the police station, sitting near Charlie Sheen, who reprises his character from the film. Plus, despite getting caught, Barry did get an epic ending to his day off.
