Gilmore Girls: The 10 Most Dramatic Things To Happen To Rory At Yale

In the fourth season of Gilmore Girls, the time had finally come for Rory to go to college. Viewers have been waiting for Rory's first day at Yale since season 1 when she was accepted into Chilton. From the remarks of everyone who knew Rory, she was destined for bigger things in life.

Rory, however, did not get through Yale unscathed. Like millions of students, she had her ups and downs throughout college while she tried to find her place in the world. And if Rory thought her most dramatic days were left behind her on the streets of Stars Hollow, she was sorely mistaken. Her time at Yale provided some of the most dramatic moments of her life.

10 Paris Is Her Roommate

It was shocking to find out that Paris was Rory's suitemate. Paris made some calls to be able to room with Rory and decided not to tell her to save the surprise. And boy, was Rory surprised. As much as Rory respected Paris, she was not expecting four more years of Paris Geller's energy. Being friends with Paris was beneficial because it pushed Rory to do better, but Paris had a knack for the dramatics and often pulled Rory into her problems.

9 When Jesse & Dean Meet Again At Rory's Dorm Door

In the fourth season, Dean and Rory are becoming close again after time apart. The problem with this, of course, is that Dean is a married man. Rory viewed her time with Dean as innocent since she "had Dean first."

The two slowly start hanging out again but things take a weird turn when they show up to Rory's dorm room and a blast from the past is there: Jess. Dean and Jess get into a pissing match — yet again — before Dean storms off in anger. Jess attempts to get Rory to run away with him because they secretly love each other but Rory turns him down. She tells him to leave and he jets off to California to find his biological dad.

8 The Start Of Logan & Rory

Logan and Rory got off on the wrong foot when they first met. Logan was a pompous womanizer who treated everyone like they were beneath him. Rory claimed to have hated entitlement and judged Logan for his arrogant ways. But as usual, Rory fell for the bad boy and realized she liked Logan the more she got to know him.

The two began seeing each other non-exclusively, which really bothered Rory. She was a relationship gal and it was hard for her to be okay with Logan dating other women. But one fateful night, Logan realized he too hated seeing Rory with other men and the two became official, which was only the beginning of their dramatic partnership.

7 The Drama With Marty

Rory appears to have some unspoken spell on men. Anyone who gets close to her falls deeply in love and behaves in an increasingly bizarre fashion.

During Rory's first few days at Yale, she met Marty and became friends with him. It wasn't before long that Marty had a crush on Rory and tried acting on it, but Rory didn't see him in that light. Things got weird between the two when Rory began dating Logan and they slowly stopped hanging out as friends. Years later, Rory finds out Marty is dating her friend Lucy. Oddly enough, Marty pretended to have never met Rory and acted coldly towards her. This turned ugly when Lucy found out the truth.

6 Rory Turned Down Logan's Proposal At Graduation

In a grand gesture of love, Logan proposed to Rory at her graduation party in front of all of her family and friends. The proposal came as a shock to Rory because it was something she and Logan never talked about. They were both graduating from Yale with strong career motives. How was that going to work while being married?

Logan left the party in a hurry when Rory needed time to think. And come graduation time, Rory gave Logan an answer – no. She wanted to focus on her career, not a marriage. Heartbroken, Logan left Yale with his head down.

5 Rory's Review Of The Ballet

When Rory becomes a member of the Yale Daily News, one of her first assignments is to write a review on the ballet. Rory didn't find the ballet particularly interesting but had more issues with the lead ballerina, Sandra. Rory ended up writing a scathing review on the show and criticized Sandra's body and ability.

Sandra confronted Rory over her review and Rory was shocked she was offended by it. Sandra even wrote "Die, Jerk!" on her dorm door. When Rory asked her loved ones what they thought of the review, they too thought Rory was unnecessarily harsh.

4 Taking A Break From School

When Logan's father told Rory that she didn't "have it" when it came to journalism, she proved him right by quitting and taking a break from Yale. As a journalist, Rory has to be open to criticism and work with people who aren't always going to appreciate her writing. Instead of taking his comments with a grain of salt, Rory went off the deep end. She quit the internship, stole a yacht, got arrested, and left Yale. It doesn't get more dramatic than that.

3 Finding A Place To Live

After rooming together freshman year, Rory and Paris continued living with each other. However, they had trouble finding housing, especially when Rory came back after her break. They found an apartment not far from campus but in a rough neighborhood. They had sketchy neighbors, it was freezing, and Paris had additional locks going down the door for protection. Lorelai hated that Rory was living there and the drama continued.

2 Rory Taking Over Paris' Job As Editor

Over at the Yale Daily News, Paris took over Doyle's position as Chief Editor and began her dictatorship. Everyone writing for the paper hated their lives and loathed working for Paris. Paris' intensity eventually got her fired and a new editor had to be elected; the staff chose Rory.

When Paris found out that Rory succeeded her, she accused Rory of pushing her out and kicked her out of their apartment. Rory had nowhere to go and was forced to move in with Logan until she found herself an apartment she could afford.

1 Rory's Meltdown On Her First Day

Every freshman is nervous about their first day at college. If they're staying on campus, it's usually their first time living away from the comforts of home and starting a life of individuality.

Rory was a jumble of nerves when she first showed up on campus but appeared to have it handled. But as soon Lorelai left Rory and made it back to Stars Hollow, Rory had a meltdown. She couldn't imagine living away from her mom and was annoyed that Lorelai made their lives so perfect. Rory didn't know how to be on her own. Lorelai tried to make it better by spending Rory's first night at college with her, which ended up being an adorable bonding moment.
