10 Hilarious Bungie Memes Only Halo And Destiny Fans Understand

With the majority of the Halo series being treasured entries in a lot of gamers’ libraries, the franchise has seemingly gone around a downward spiral as of late, and that’s due to the celebrated developer Bungie palming its baby off to a significantly inferior developer.

As Bungie found more interest in the much fresher first-person shooter, Destiny, choosing to work with Activision over Microsoft, things didn’t get off as swimmingly as they expected there, either. Unsurprisingly, Bungie’s choices and the mess they have left behind them have spawned some hilarious memes.

10 PlayStation Fans Be Like

One thing that has fueled the console wars between Xbox and PlayStation users are the games exclusives to the consoles, and Halo was Microsoft’s biggest and best exclusive franchise. So regardless of how good the games are, PlayStation fans will irrefutably criticize Halo and Bungie.

But, hilariously enough, when Destiny, a game that has been criticized for being Halo-lite, was released on PlayStation 4, fans of Sony’s console were drooling over its gameplay, even despite its overly powerful boss levels.

9 343 Producing Great Content

Ever since Bungie ditched the Halo series to focus more on Destiny, Microsoft entrusted the developer 343 with its prized IP, but there has been nothing but complaints from fans and critics. In the rare event that the developer actually does something good with the Master Chief, such as expanding on the character development, the players use the Master Chief’s own words (from the hilarious Red vs. Blue) against them.

8 Xbox Series X Launch Title

Though it is still one of the most anticipated games of the year, Destiny 2: Beyond Light replacing Halo Infinite as Xbox Series X’s launch title is ironic because Bungie left Microsoft to work on the Destiny series with Activision.

And even though Beyond Light has somehow become the leading game among the Xbox’s launch titles, it isn’t even exclusive to Xbox, as it’ll be getting released on PlayStation 5 too. And with the release of the game, players have some of the hardest strikes to look forward to.

7 The Real Trilogy

Making great use of Michael Fassbender’s portrayal of Magneto in X-Men: First Class, one fan has tried to settle an age old debate: Which trilogy is best? There are small details in the original Halo games that make them great, and though many Halo fans believe that Bungie’s Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3 is the original trilogy, many people over look the Halo 2 expansion pack that is put on a pedestal here.

6 Microsoft Patting Themselves On The Back

Though it’s unclear how much people read Microsoft's publication wherein they review their own games, upon release of one of Bungie’s best games and arguably the best Halo game, Halo 3, Microsoft awarded the game a perfect score, one that so few other games receive. Using one of the most popular memes on the internet, Barack Obama awarding himself with a medal, is ingenious.

5 Activision’s Input

Destiny may have had its fair share of problems upon release, but those problems have since been patched and improved. As the Bungie developed game was published by Activision, Bungie bid farewell to the AAA publisher in order to have more creative freedom.

The team may have got the freedom they wanted, but it was at the sacrifice of game quality, as the decisions they have made for Destiny 2 since 2019 have turned it in to a sophomore slump.

4 343 And Halo

In the early 2010s, Bungie made the announcement that they’d be putting all of their effort into Destiny and abandoning Halo, leaving developer 343 Industries to piece the franchise back together. But it didn’t exactly work like that, as the development team have all but ruined the franchise as it all went downhill after Halo: Reach. Most notably, the single player campaigns have taken the biggest nosedive in quality.

3 The Emotional Toll Of Halo Reach

In what is arguably the last great Halo game, Halo: Reach also has arguably some of the most startling and shocking deaths in any game. The first screenshot of the game shows one scene where the player is thrown out of a Covenant spaceship in low orbit by a marine in order to save Reach by sacrificing himself, only for the rest of the fleet to show up afterwards. For a first person shooter, it’s one of the most emotionally exhausting games there is and it will make any grown man shed a tear or two.

2 The Freudian Slip

Though it led to a lot of demands from fans for the sequel, many of the first Destiny's original features led to fans spending hours hitting their heads against brick walls. But somewhere in the interim, one fan found this shocking comparison. As both games have the same designers, this very well could have been a Freudian slip that was included subconsciously, but Destiny’s logo’s likeness to the Master Chief’s crotch is hilarious.

1 Chips Dubbo

The consensus of the Halo series amongst fans is that the original trilogy created by Bungie is a work of art and that no other first person shooter can even reach its perfection. And they also believe that Halo 4 and Halo 5, created by 343, are piles of garbage.

Regardless of their differences, it has inspired one fan to compare their similarities. The conclusion is ultimately that the originals are far superior thanks only to the inclusion of Chips Dubbo, the enthusiastic Australian marine.
