The Binge Movie Trailer: It’s Basically The Purge But More Partying

The new Hulu comedy The Binge looks like a cross between the Purge franchise and Superbad. The Binge is set to debut on the service on August 28, which showed a world where debauchery and partying is acceptable for one day only. The high school students look forward to a day where they can let loose with no ramifications. As many movies that have come before it can attest to, there are always consequences.

Hulu released the trailer for The Binge that throws viewers into a Purge-esque world. The voiceover talks about a prosperous America, which is clean and sober, and no drugs are allowed except one night a year. That day is known as Binge Day. Of course, high school students are eager to participate in a Binge Day. The trailer suggests that not everything goes to plan as the day progresses. The official trailer and poster for The Binge can be seen below:

The Binge is directed by Jeremy Garelick, who last directed the 2015 Kevin Hart-Josh Gad comedy The Wedding Ringer. His latest movie stars Vince Vaughn as the school's principal and Skyler Gisondo, who previously stole scenes in last year's BooksmartDexter Darden, Eduardo Franco (another Booksmart alumni) and Grace Van Dien. Jordan VanDina wrote the screenplay, which marks his first feature film as a screenwriter.

Besides the obvious comparison to The Purge, the trailer for The Binge looks like a typical high school party movie. Just the trailer hits a lot of the genre's familiar beats: One last night to make memories or a lasting impression, working up the courage to talk to a girl and many thwarted plans. It will be interesting to see if The Binge can use its premise to do anything unexpected.
