Big Brother 22: Ian Terry Opens Up About Being On the Autism Spectrum

Ian Terry of Big Brother 22: All-Stars opened up about being on the autism spectrum. During his first season, Ian was criticized by his fellow houseguests for certain behaviors they didn't understand. Still, Ian made it all the way to the end on Big Brother 14 and took home the $500,000 grand prize, despite competing with Dan Gheesling, who is one of the biggest players in the history of the show. On BB14, however, Ian did not disclose that he was on the spectrum. While there is a chance that he didn't know it himself, some of Ian's recent statements on BB22 indicate that he was just hiding something he always knew.

Ian came into All-Stars as one of the two former Big Brother winners. Although this is enough reason for his fellow houseguests to target him right off the bat, Ian has been the same lovable and charismatic person fans got to know on Big Brother 14. In addition, Ian is now opening up about being on the autism spectrum. As a result, he is establishing connections on a much deeper level with his fellow BB22 players. Moreover, Ian is now serving as representation for viewers who are also on the spectrum.

During the first week on Big Brother 22: All-Stars, Ian Terry had various separate conversations about being on the autism spectrum. First, he asked Kaysar Ridha if he knew he was on the spectrum. Kaysar replied that he did know because he is on the spectrum himself. A few days later, Ian had a conversation in the backyard with Daniele Donato Briones and explained how he deals with autism. During the BB22 episode that aired on Wednesday, August 12, Ian opened up about autism in one of his diary room confessionals. He explained that this isn't something that he particularly enjoys talking about, but that it is a reality that he must deal with.

It is safe to say that Ian doesn't feel comfortable talking about being on the spectrum all the time. However, it is also commendable that he is no longer trying to hide the fact he has autism. Instead, Ian is using his Big Brother platform to bring awareness to people who are on the spectrum. Additionally, he is serving as representation for viewers who can relate to him. As a winner of Big Brother, Ian is living proof that being on the spectrum doesn't have to be misjudged the way that it often is by the general public. In fact, a person with autism can win the grand prize and come back to compete as an All-Star.

There's no denying that Ian talking about being on the autism spectrum is an unexpected, but very important storyline for Big Brother 22 to showcase. Hopefully, viewers who are also on the spectrum will feel represented by someone who is as honest and impactful as Ian.
